Harley’s craziness is mainly played for laughs. At least the modern versions of the character. Meanwhile, Jinx’s craziness is taken pretty seriously. Did Silco love Jinx? Yes. Did he care for her like his own daughter? Absolutely. Would he move heaven and earth to keep her safe and happy? Definitely. Silco was the father that Jinx wanted; someone who loves her unconditionally and validates everything she does. But, he wasn't the father that Jinx NEEDED; someone who criticizes her when she fucks up, teaches her healthy coping mechanisms for her trauma, and not gaslight and project his problems onto her, because HE can't move on. I love Silco's and Jinx's dynamic, it was truly bittersweet. But, I feel like some people forget how truly messed up their relationship is.

It's such a stark contrast between the way Vander and Vi interacted and the way Silco and Jinx interacted. Vander was always putting his foot down and teaching Vi harsh life lessons. Silco was overprotective and kept Jinx safe from any and all consequences of her actions. A lot of parents could probably learn from this show.

Yeah, I see some people saying Vi doesn't love Jinx, and that Silco does love her, but missing that you can love someone while not condoning their behaviour, and you can love someone and not be good for them. Silco definitely enables Jinx's violent behaviour, and I don';t think it was even deliberate because he was projecting his own issues with Vander onto her relationship with Vi. And that makes it even more interesting imho.

It's a weird thing with Silco, because he always has his heart in the right place, but his deeds don't line up with that. He thinks all he does is necessary, a great way to calm your conciousness when you kill the innocent. He tried to be a good father, but broken men tend to find that hard.

@mitchiehewer

Okay. BUT. Why even have moments where it seemed that there was intimacy between them? The whole time I watched their relationship once she was older, I ALWAYS thought they were moments away from kissing. If the relationship was purely father/daughter, the physical interactions should have been limited, maybe even 0. Not once did I get an intimacy vibe from Vi and Vander, but I ALWAYS thought that Jinx and Silco were about to be together. The scene where he dunks her in the water, tell me you didn't think he was leaning down to kiss her. The way she looks at him...yes, its with adoration but could have easily been tweaked not to look so shy anime lover-ish. They either needed to go ahead and make it a thing or do everything they can to not make it look like it may be a thing.
@juicyfruits8071
@juicyfruits8071 2 роки тому
@@mitchiehewer I noticed the same thing. But i think a key element is all of the moments that could be seen as romantic between the two are nearly always from Jinx's perspective. I don't think Silco had any of those feelings towards her and was in it to be a father figure only, but it very much seemed to me that Jinx's feelings towards Silco were confused. Vulnerable and/ or traumatized (younger especially) people can sometimes idolize parental / mentor figures (not blood related of course) to an unhealthy degree, to the point where it DOES feel like something more than platonic. So its very possible it was intentional, meant to make the audience confused and uncomfortable. A romance between the two would have been very gross and Im glad that they didnt go in that direction. But I'm glad they explored this aspect of toxic mentor/ student relationships because its definitely something that isn't talked about much. But it definitely happens, probably more than we'd like to admit. Gives both jinx and siclo more complexity. makes silco slightly less shitty is the fact that he didnt take advantage of Jinx, when he definitely could have.
@mitchiehewer
@mitchiehewer 2 роки тому
@@juicyfruits8071 Hmmm. I sincerely think that there is nothing wrong with a mentor/mentee romantic relationship, nor even a relationship where one is significantly older than the other. We are just socialized to be appalled by anything that doesn't fit the current norm. In the past days, and even in some countries today, dating someone significantly older is not viewed as anything other than normal. Nor is dating someone like your father's best friend, etc. Now, this audience is clearly a euro-centric audience, so these types of relationship will surely be viewed as wrong. Hence why I was uncomfortable observing any scenes where such a relationship was implied. I heavily disagree that it was necessary to show those things for the audience to understand how fucked-up the relationship was or how much trauma Jinx had. That was pretty clear to me, even before she became Jinx, and they did a good job showing that throughout. Those scenes of near-intimacy did not do anything other than make me uncomfortable, and it was uncomfortable because the father/daughter narrative was pushed so hard. As someone from those other countries where this relationship would not be viewed as wrong, I was mad uncomfortable. Because we were being sold a father/daughter narrative and then being shown otherwise. That's what I mean when I say they should have either ran with it or let it go. For example, Mel is clearly older than Jayce and is in a much higher position of power than Jayce. She practically created him. Some people have raised concerns around her manipulation for sure, but no one is exactly jarred by the fact that they had actual sex within the show. The show could have easily sold you the Jinx X Silco narrative in a way that you would fall for it too, many anime shows do that and euro-centric audiences find themselves begrudgingly liking it. Because if it is done right, you can easily understand why two seemingly different people would fall for each other. You might even say awww, so I have to disagree that it would have been gross. Now, if you spend the show selling me this father/daughter narrative, and then you show the daughter as a teenager straddling the father's lap, I'm sorry, but no. That's what makes the scenes uncomfortable, if that is making any sense. It's the insistent selling of Jinx as his daughter, and then the unnecessary intimacy. I would happily write ways that they could have depicted the same level of dependence on Silco without her needing to touch him intimately. Additionally, just because it was from Jinx's perspective does not mean we KNOW that Silco is not thinking of her in that way. Imagine, a teenage girl sitting on the lap of a grown man, where her body is likely connecting with his, you know. There is just no way that can be 100% innocent. The point of my rant is, no, we did not need those scenes at all. And they were a very small part of the show, but I didn't need to have unnecessary heart attacks. As a non euro-centric audience member, I would have been happy with the writers committing fully to a more romantic aspect. Then they could have made Silco younger, maybe Jinx less shy anime girl in love-like, toss the daddy/daughter thing out the window and go for more friendship vibes, and you would have been sold on their romantic story just as much as anything else within the show. I'm not saying its for every one, but I'm pointing to the fact that cultural differences do exist in terms of what is viewed as right or wrong. My ex who I almost married while I was 17 was 35, and that was neither illegal nor viewed as wrong in my country. Nor was I not mature enough to know what I was doing. Many people in their 40's don't have the maturity to have a relationship either, so I don't believe in the whole age as a factor thing, after a certain point of course. All that is to say (God will I ever finish?? :D) I just don't think those scenes were necessary and I could have used some other more impactful ways of showing their relationship (like Silco tossing a blanket over her while she sleeps, making breakfast for her, etc.). I think I'm done now :)
@juicyfruits8071
@juicyfruits8071 2 роки тому
@@mitchiehewer i guess its cause ive had confusing feelings like that before with a mentor (not to the extent in the show where i straddled him or anything) that I appreciated it more. I was traumatized growing up and had a hard time telling whether someone genuinely cared for me in a fatherly way or if they wanted to sleep with me. I've never seen those feelings represented on screen. So as uncomfortable as it was to see a mixture of fatherly feelings and paternal feelings, its something that has happened to me personally so it resonated with me. Trauma makes people have weird feelings and see things in a distorted way. Its not pretty, and it IS uncomfortable. But unfortunately it is also realistic
@mitchiehewer
@mitchiehewer 2 роки тому
@@juicyfruits8071 Thank you so much for sharing that, I get what you mean. Yes, trauma can result in confusing feelings and is often the catalyst for behaviors that others may not understand (as evident in own interpretation of the Jinx/Silco dynamic). In that sense, I am glad you were able to see something on-screen that validated your own feelings. Mentor/mentee relationships can often be very toxic, and we do need to see that portrayed, just as much as we need to show that isn't always so. I'm sorry for what happened to you, I hope you are doing okay and taking care of yourself.

I think the main thing on the “Silco was a good father” bit is that most people don’t understand that you don’t need to be abusive or eagerly manipulative to be a bad parent. Silco tried, like most parents do, and like a good number of parents he didn’t know shit about what he was doing and his choices contributed to fucking up his kid. Being a bad parent isn’t always deliberate. Silco’s goal wasn’t to destroy Jinx, he did love her, but he was *not* a good father.

Silco did pretty much manipulate Powder though. He saw a vulnerable little girl in the worst moment of her life, basically kidnapped her, and brainwashed her into basically becoming a weapon for him in the form of Jinx. Did he love her? Yes. Without a doubt, and that was proven how he refused to turn her in to achieve everything he wanted. But he still played a major role in transforming someone who already had mental problems into a schizophrenic psychopath who works with him because he made it so that she had no one else to go to. It's called fishbone* *Silco has a black scar on his left eye.* *Silco loved sea monsters and Jinx wanted to make something Silco really liked, so Jinx made a sea monster inspired weapon based on Silco (like the coffee mug she had made for him).* *Jinx used the "Fishbone the black eyed Sea monster" weapon to kill the council because she thought that is what Silco would have wanted.* *In the game she banters with "Fishbone" like it were parent-child conversation.* *"We will show them. HARD disagree on the Ekko take. He was cornerstone level important, even with such little screentime. If you study the themes of the show, you can see how he acts as a foil for Vi and Powder, he represents an aspect of duality, he shows another path that the friends from Act 1 went down, and he represents one of the only people from Powder's past that has a chance of actually reaching her. In fact, he DID reach her during the bridge scene - that's why she tried to end it with the grenade. She wanted to go out as Powder, with a friend. He was so incredibly important.

So Echo was essentially looking into the eyes of Powder. To me, her smile was one of resignation, of missing old times and hating what everything has come to. I think she intended to take herself out with the grenade, because rather than sticking it to echo's jacket or trying to escape with it, she just lays it in plain view beside herself and lays there with it. I dunno tho.

I think they can "bring Vander back" as Warwick without hurting the story. The reason is, Warwick is not really Vander anymore. He was made off his corpse, yes. But Warwick is the purest essence of the mad bloodthirsty wolf of justice that was inside Vander, suppressed all along. And of course pumped full of chemicals and dissected by Singed. Warwick has no memories of who he was before. He doesn't remember any of the people who were important to Vander. He has no clue of his past. And most of all, he is happy not knowing. He is happy to be a being without internal conflict, a pure form of Vander's inner beast.

As a Warwick main and someone who's loved his lore... this just isn't right. Warwick isn't without internal conflict; to the contrary he's pretty much defined by it. He has these half remembered memories obscured by uncontrollable primal urges. His level lucidity varies with every moment, and disappears completely when he catches the scent of blood. Despite this, Warwick is constantly aware on at least some level that he was not always like this and that something is wrong. He maintains a strained, foggy sense of justice and targets only those he finds deserving, struggling against the beast's desire to kill everyone around him. Imo this Warwick has MUCH more potential for Arcane's story than the mindless beast you describe. It's brimming with conflict and pathos, and plays directly into the themes the show is centered around (duality, family, abandonment and reconciliation ). The potential for interactions between him, Vi and Jinx is immense. It's honestly what I'm looking forward to the most in Season 2, assuming they do indeed delve into it there.

I took months out of my life trying to do an accurate depiction of my personal experience with psychosis in my writing, and then Arcane portrays my own experiences better than I probably ever will in my entire life. Makes me wonder if someone in production had experiences with psychosis before and helped its incorporation into the show. Basically, Jinx’s psychosis was one of my favorite animated styles ever because of how close it hit to home. I’m also obsessed with Vi and Powder/Jinx’s relationship. As an older sibling who is somewhat overprotective of my younger sib, this show fucking broke me. I just couldn’t stop seeing a part of myself in Vi, and the raw agony of knowing you failed someone you needed to protect so badly and watching them turn to the dark side in a lot of ways. That hurt like frick. This is why I need fanfiction. To curl up in a blanket and pretend that everything is okay between the sisters. This fucking show man. God damn it.

I disagree with the sentiment that he cared about her trauma/didn't want her to suffer from it, because he used it constantly on her so she'd stick by him. He always reminded her that she was abandoned, and was constantly saying "us against the world", "no one truly loves you but me", "everyone will only betray you" type of stuff-- ALL of which play to her weaknesses and trauma. To me, if he actually wanted her to be happy, then he would have let her spend time with her sister who obviously makes her happy. But as soon as he heard Vi was around, he freaked out and wanted her out of the picture as quickly as possible. Why? Because Vi's existence threatens Jinx's loyalty to him. I think, when he said she was perfect in the end, he meant it. People tend to be more sincere when time is ticking for them, so I do think he truly cared for her. But love can be incredibly toxic, and his love for her was drowned in codependency and projection of his own trauma.

@@jhmi7877 I think he genuinely believed everything he said to Jinx. He saw how traumatized she was after she hallucinated Vi over one of the Firelights' faces, and probably deduced that the news that Vi was actually still alive would fuck her up deeply. Also bear in mind the fact that Silco actually DID think Vi abandoned Powder, since Marcus arrested Vi specifically to make sure Silco didn't see (and kill) her. That's also what Powder thought, and what she told him. Combined with the cut-throat nature of Zaun, I don't think he's lying when he says that kind of thing to Jinx. Can it be manipulative? I'm also not disagreeing that he believed the things he said. Like I mentioned, I think there was a lot of projection there- he saw Vander in Vi, and his pain in Jinx's. This projection of his own pain made him care for Jinx more than he thought he could care for a person, but on the other side of that same coin, it also pushed him to do what he felt was necessary to keep her by his side. Even to her detriment. So, though he loved her, he still made decisions that made HIM feel better, not Jinx. But this is what I like about his character as a main villain. Honestly the ending of this was one of the saddest things. Her actions when they were rescuing Vander doomed these characters even though they were in a situation where they probably would have made it out. She acted on her own thinking that she was doing what Vander and Vi really wanted/needed. The ending was the echo of that. She launches that weapon because she thought that's what SIlco wanted. She acted on her own thinking that her actions would help fulfil Silco's dream of a free Zaun, instead she doomed them restarting the cycle all over again..

The table scene is an absolute masterpiece. First with building the suspense of not seeing Caitlyn after the ending of episode 8 until the table scene, second with Jinx saying “I turned her into a snack” because everybody watching that scene for the first time actually thought she chopped Caitlyn’s head off, and third Silco’s death speech was a great last line for the character. It shows that even while he’s dying Silco’s first priority is Jinx, whether it’s good or not.

Not obsessive, controlling, or manipulative, but a genuine fatherly love for the character, and I think what people mistake is they equate that love with being a good parent. But silcos morals and ideals are so vile and corrupted that his love is like poison, driving Jinx deeper into madness evey time he tries to help her. He sees her as perfect, and that she merely needs to free herself from her past family in order to be fully realized, not recognizing that it is because of her last family that she is even alive and fighting, as much as it is killing her, and ruining everything around them. And on top of that, that fatherly love blinds him to all the ways that jinx is ruining everything for him, even to the point where his dream of the nation of zaun, a dream that would finally be realized without his knowledge, is about to explode by the daughter he keeps protecting.

Honestly, I liked the way echo was themed on this season, and it actually plays well with how little time the show gives him. He's presented as the 'other', the third option, arguably the best one, a reminder that you can solve your problems without having to choose the lesser evil or compromise your morals, just to get subsequently ignored by all the other characters and the plot at large, the same way this always happens in real life. I think that this feeling that echo is an 'outsider' was very intentionally crafted by the writers, especially if you take into consideration his cold opening song. The only character that pays attention to him is the former counciler rethinking his life choices, and that's by design. The solution echo offers to the conflict between zaun and piltover, that is, focusing only on how to improve people's lives right now and with whatever you have in hand, not some future prospect, is basically what every character should do to make the entire main conflict disappear out of thin air.

I saw another video where a lot of people were saying that Vi was traumatizing Jinx and Silco wanted to shoot Vi because it was clearly hurting Jinx.... Because he has abandonment issues too.
@tompatompsson
@tompatompsson 2 роки тому
That's the opposite of what we see... The whole scene of the baptism is to remove(bury) her past. It's Vi telling Jinx to remember Mylo, Clagger and Vander that's causing her to have a mental breakdown. Mylo, Clagger and Vander ARE jinxs' demons.
@ChasehaWing
@ChasehaWing Рік тому
@@tompatompsson They're not though. They were her brothers. Vander was her father. And Silco came in expecting to kill her, but ended up instantly trauma bonding with her after having killed her real father. And he did so when he compared what Powder felt when Vi "abandoned her" to what he felt when Vander tried to kill him. It sent him to a place where his past self and present needed comfort to come to terms with what happened/ what he did and it manifested in Powder. Then when she felt guilty about killing her family, he twisted it to try and either have her forget them, or emphasized the bad about them to make her stay connected to him. He did this ESPECIALLY with Milo who was a bully to Jinx... but I think the way Silco taught her to rethink the scenerio made Milo seem worse than he was. The truth about Milo was he was an insecure kid who kept screwing up or was not as impressive as anyone in the family. Because of that, he put down Powder to try and make himself feel better. He felt worthless so he took that out on Powder to make him feel something possitive... and that was WRONG of him to do but if someone could have explained that to Powder after his death, so she could have been allowed to grow and reflect and grieve properly. If that happened she wouldn't be hearing his voice now. But because Silco never let's Jinx confront her past and accept what happened, he also doesn't let her age mentally. Jinx is an out of control child, and Silco enabled her to be such. The reason they can still cuddle like that, that she can sit on his lap without anything sexual between them or either feeling weird (despite everyone else feeling gross), is because the precieve her as a little girl still. She may have grown bugger, but she didn't grow wiser. She acts like a little kid still because she can't grow past what she did. She's stunted and will forever be so until she comes to terms with what happened that day at the faculty. Vi was right in trying to make Jinx confront it. Maybe it was the wrong time/ approach because Jinx was on so many drugs and having a mental breakdown already... but Jinx did not give Vi a choice in the matter. Jinx is on the offensive and is constantly forcing Vi into a corner or giving her impossible ultimatums that she thinks she can get away with, because Silco let her get away with crap like that. But Vi won't anymore. As an adult she had time to reflect and probably understands the difference between empowering Powder and enabling her, can reflect on their youth and figure what she did wrong and what she did right. She also knows her sister is already falling apart and mixing reality with fiction and Silco is mostly to blame for it, and Vi has to break the illusion Silco created and Jinx fell for, in order to get her sister back. And Silco tried to shoot her because he is codependent on Jinx. He can't fathom losing her in any way so he tried to kill Vi (multiple times) to keep his daughter. Because if Jinx ever changed from that scared girl desperately clinging to him that night, all those many years ago...than she wouldn't be his daughter anymore. And he would lose her.
@tompatompsson
@tompatompsson Рік тому
@@ChasehaWing So from "Then when she felt guilty about killing her family, he twisted it to try and either have her forget them" and onwards you are simply making shit up? How do you know that he did that? Why exactly do you even consider that to have happened? Silco never mentions Mylo or Claggor at all? Why do you think that "Silco doesn't let her confront her past"? The obvious answer is that he isn't a psychologist and I doubt that is even thing in Zaun or even Runeterra as whole. Her not aging mentally doesn't rely on Silco not allowing her to confront her past. She can do that just fine on her own. "She's stunted and will forever be so until she comes to terms with what happened that day at the faculty." I agree. Why does that mean that Silco is making her unable to do this? So you are saying that Vi intentionally triggered her little sister in moment where both her own and Caitlyns lives were in the hands of Jinx? That... is incredibly dumb. Here is what I think happened: Vi, throughout the show, believes that Jinx and Powder are two separate entities and that Jinx is just a form that Silco created. We know that this isn't true. The reason that Powder became Jinx was because of her mental trauma from that day. So when Vi is forced to try and save Caitlyns life she calls out to "Powder" by telling her to remember the family she killed, thinking that Powder, inside Jinx, would be able to "break free" and come back to the surface. But again, Powder wasn't replaced by Jinx, she became Jinx. Vi is the one creating the breakdown that Jinx has and I HIGHLY doubt that was her intention. Finally, why exactly would you take such a roundabout thought? Vi is literally causing his "daughter" to have a mental breakdown-> shoot Vi to stop her from hurting Jinx. Is it possible that he figured that shooting Vi would make Jinx forget about her? I doubt it very, VERY much.
@ChasehaWing
@ChasehaWing Рік тому
@@tompatompsson I will take too long to explain. To shorten, it's what Silco doesn't say that leads me to a lot of conclusions, rather than anything he actually does say. He can't talk about the boys with her and have her rationalize her emotions, because doing so would force him to remind her/ have her confront the idea that he was the one who was directly at fault for the death of her previous family, as he did orchestrate the entire night. The only reason any of them ended up there, is because of him. And having her realize/ remember that would probably have ended up with her leaving him and he can't have that. So he rather she have auditory hallucinations plaguing her, than talk through her problems about her brothers to her and rationalize her emotions. That or rather she drown out her thoughts literally with that symbolic baptism in the lake. Killing off her past life as Powder so she can just live as Jinx. Getting her to repress her emotions despite the fact that has never worked. But it's the only way to keep her. There's a lot of implied text and things you have to understand through actions alone rather than anything outright said. One of the things is if Silco really wanted to help Jinx, he would have actually helped her. But he likes that she was messed up. He likes that her being broken makes her codependent on him. And he can not stand ANYTHING getting in the way of their bond. No thoughts of Vandor outside of demonizing him to her. Telling the lie that her sister left her when he ordered her death. And with this probably came the thought of "it sounds like your brothers bullied you. You deserved better." Because to make himself her father figure.. he had to remove positive associations from her last family. They had to be villianized so he could be her hero. And Silco has been trying to kill Vi long before the tea party because she has always been a threat to his and Jinx's relationship. Vi's words are trying to remind Jinx of the positive associations with the past. Making her confront the past rather than suppress it. She calls out Milo and Claggor and then "Dad" and Jinx can't fully get a proper image when she says that word. But Silco just wants Vi to shut up. He doesn't worry about Jinx getting hurt further by Vi's words..., he just doesn't want his daughter to be taken away. Doesn't want Vi to steal that which is most important to him. His codependant relationship with Jinx. And if the lies shatter, so will their bond.

I didn't expect to cry so hard during Arcane but it proved me so wrong, everyone in this masterpiece deserve so much love and so many hugs. All of episode 3 just broke me, it was so sad and it hurt seeing it all unfold. And Jinx just pulled at my heartstrings the whole series since I could relate to her emotions. It was just an amazing thing to watch, from the amazing characters, the art, the tragic story and the music.

this absolutely true, but trauma can be made worse by unhealthy coping mechanisms. Everything that Silco tried to teach her, in genuine compassion for her, was counterproductive. Powder was affected by serious trauma and a need for codependency after the bridge, but Vi was able to keep her stable and functional. Silco wasn't. That's what demonstrates his failure as a father.

I absolutely agree that Silco was a shit dad, but by goodness did he care. I found him incredibly compelling because when he said "I would have never given them you" to Jinx in his final scene, I believed him with every fiber of my being. The way he recognized himself in her and tried to give her some form of guidance that he lacked, however twisted, was amazingly executed.

I think Silco shows wonderfully that you can love your child more than anything in the world and still be a bad parent. Their dynamic was unique because in my experience villains tend to sacrifice their loved ones in the end when it is the one thing that helps them achieve their main goal or are revealed to have groomed them this whole time for their cause. But Silco truly loved Jinx and was prepared to give up his dream to save her. Which does not mean that he was good for her at all. Still, he loved her even when she killed him and that's refreshing and heartbreaking.

"All the super touchy feely scenes between them, I just about died..." Jinx and Silco's closeness is probably jarring because it comes right after a time skip. We don't get to see them growing and bonding together in a healthy 'father adopting a daughter', kind of way. Also, it took like 6 years to make this - So a 'season 2' has me nervous, like no way it'll be as good.

I was absolutely stunned that they did not use motion capture for close-up facial animation. One of my favorite scenes for pretty much ever reason was the final scene of episode 3 when Vi parts ways with Powder. Powder's expression of glee fading into horror at what she did and then emotional desperation were stunning, as was Vi's emotional torment. Both voice actresses killed it, Powder's shrieks made me viscerally uncomfortable and want to just reach through the screen to hug her (apparently her actress was 11 at the time of recording). Speaking of hugs, Silco's (in one of my top 10 villains I have seen in recent memory) facial animation when she glomps him despite seconds earlier him holding a knife to kill her was of complete surprise and shows he doesn't quite know how to emotionally respond, then it softening--well soft for him he still has that stern expression--when he sees Vander's body and then sees himself in the little girl he's holding. You know he's gonna use her of course, but just the animation for his internal struggle and then conceding to take her in showed there is genuine sympathy he feels for Powder. Also the framing of using the alley and the fire was awesome, many of those shots were wonderful and the flames being sometimes 2D gave them a great appearance. As does the rain falling over the characters faces, and you can even see Powder's and Silco's hair getting damp and thus more disheveled the longer they spend on the rain. Finally the song Goodbye at the end slipping in so appropriately made me realize I was not watching just another video game adaptation, but a work of art. *chef's kiss* It was brilliant. And I have never touched League of Legends or know anything about the lore.

I really liked the video! But I disagree with some things, especially the part about Ekko. I think he was crucial to the story, taking into account that all characters introduced in act 1 have some appearance in the next acts or are finalized in it. In my view Ekko did not appear in the next acts for use catchphrases, on the contrary, he served to add a new narrative perspective, of a child who believed and followed Vander and saw everything destroyed in front of him because of a man who he did not knew and worse: that was helped by his dear friend. He shows the point of view of the subferry people who didn't bow their heads to Silco's corruption and who preserved Vander's old leadership. In fact, after Vi's disappearance you can see that Ekko was the one who adopted the leadership and his legacy. Ekko also had a duality of his own, as although he insisted that Powder was dead, he himself doubted that when he couldn't kill Jinx (who was his mortal enemy) and let himself be carried away by the memory. Not to mention that he character adds in others narratives, especially of Vi and Heimerdinger. I would be particularly frustrated if he only appeared in the other season, as it would be like a scoop on something that was pretty well established as a standard in other characters' narratives (in case appearing in every act and having an aggregator point without disappearing); if you consider season 1 as a separate work (as i'm considering) in terms of script it wouldn't make sense either. Anyway! Those are my points! :3 Ps: Sorry if i have make spelling mistakes. I'm bad at writing and proofreading English.

While Silco wasn't strictly a "good" father, I think you're not giving him enough credit, and I think it would be more accurate to say that he is a "realistic" father. That is, one who does certain things well and who loves his daughter unconditionally, but also one who allows his own issues and trauma to cloud his judgement. Silco is a bad person. I think anyone who would argue that is grossly out of their depth. But something that Silco does that *is* good is the way he accepts Jinx as she is. I'm not arguing that bad behavior needs to be excused in all cases, but it is very clear that Jinx suffers from severe PTSD and possibly Bipolar Disorder. Whereas Vi just wants things to go back to the way things were, wants Powder back, Silco is willing to accept Jinx as she is, to not make her feel as though she is less valid or less worthy of love because of her trauma. Ultimately, Silco's desire to retain a person that he loves and who loves him drives him to engage in manipulative and ruthless behavior. As previously stated, he is a bad person; a villain, not an anti-hero. But even the worst people can/do have some redeeming quality. Very few people are wholly good or evil.

But the fact still stands that he is a revenge-driven psycho who casually murders children, and in raising Jinx he actively tried to make her more like him. A lot of people point out that He tried to make her the monster she is, but the well goes deep. Episode one we watch her try to kill a kid. She didn't use smoke bomb, she tried to use a nail grenade. Nobody told her to stop making explosives before hand, and she insinuated that she's tried to kill people on more than one account, the bombs just failed. Episode 6, what cause her to kill those cops, wasn't Silco's influence, but the same voices that told her she wasn't good enough her whole childhood. He said take some time off (the usual go clear your head), and she took it as 'I have to prove I'm not useless' something he never asked her to do. This show's real villain, is the fissure's socio-economic status. Vander being fine with his kids robbing places as long as its not where the rich folks are, a little girl has to make grenades to feel safe, a man with aspirations of a better tomorrow has no trust in the people around him, fumes so toxic they literately dampen longevity. @RunicRazili 2 роки тому
@@757reaper just because he tried to exorcise her demons the only way he knew how doesn’t mean he’s good. If anything that supports the fact that he’s bad, as his methods proved to be ineffective. Good parenting is not just about always being supportive and trying your best, but it’s also about succeeding where you try. Saying he’s good because he used ineffective methods that he thought would be best is like saying a leader is a good leader for making the best possible decision that he could think of that ended up killing a quarter of his team when there were better options that would’ve resulted in no casualties. Also, Vander has nothing to do with Silco’s parenting. Was he also not the greatest? Sure. But does that matter when talking about Silco? No. No it doesn’t. Because a good parent would be able to realize that their adoptive child went through bad shit from their last guardian, and then would proceed to find the best way to actually help her and not make it worse. Jinx was going to happen even if Silco didn’t show up, which is most likely true..but that’s not an argument. As a parent you should actively try to prevent that stuff, but if anything Silco just accelerated the process. After all, telling you that your previous father isn’t the man you though he was, and constantly excusing you from things that are obviously not okay is going to mess up a kid. So no, he’s not good. Did he try his best? Yeah he did, which is why he’s so interesting. Even though he failed, he still tried and showed that he actually cares for Jinx and was willing to comfort her in his last breaths, despite his last breaths being a product of Jinx, the monster he may not have created..but still a monster he didn’t stop.
