Roger, I really don't keep up with too much TV/entertainment, so I'm not so familiar with Dave Chappelle's body of work. I think his Clayton Bigsby skit is one of the most hilarious comedy pieces I have ever seen so kudos to Chappelle as a comic, but he really did need to have more regard for the truth the other night in his SNL monologue.
@PG4L_Podcast
@PG4L_Podcast 7 років тому
Kentucky Dave Well Dave can be color driven whenever he's on stage, and tends to bring up a lot of uncomfortable subject matter like race. Do I agree with everything he says? ....not really, but the comedy is like getting a message on a sore spot after this election. It eases the tension. I hope Donald does a good job in office, but it's good to hear it from a person of color saying good luck to another person everyone on the other side of the isle considered to be racist. Is he? The only one who can answer that is him, but is it a sore spot for the black community....yeah...why? Because that's what the media has been spinning, and instead of vetting the info, most people in the black community just go for what they hear. What regard for the truth were you referring to if you don't mind me asking?
@AntwaneLee
@AntwaneLee 7 років тому
I'm just now reading this, but I would like to know what regard to truth he is talking about as well. You have him 2 sources. It's well known fact that Teddy was pretty racist.

Also, it's just refreshing in general to see a seasoned stand-up comic deliver an actual comedic monologue at the start of SNL. Not a fucking song or a mini skit, just a set of jokes and observations expertly delivered by a skilled comedian. He seemed sort of off to me, almost like his heart wasn't in it (despite being sincere). I get that everyone's glad he's back, but I find it hard to believe that most of the people in this comment section didn't notice. "As good as he was in his prime"? That's a real stretch. Not like that's not a bad thing. Maybe he has a new style. Or maybe he's just a bit rusty. But it seems obvious to me that he didn't have the exuberance he used to have. Maybe that will change as he gets more warmed up.

whats really sad IMO, is the fact that people are fooled so easily. all that will happen is republicans will slap a couple good things with his name on it, so he can get credit. All the people that voted for him will say he did good, and we will continue to be stuck in this nightmare with him. I will say this, I ve spent sometime working near the boarder in El Paso, no way this wall goes up. Mexico Dont have the money and US cant afford to cut trade ties with them especially if they want to cut trade ties with China.
@badasscheater
@badasscheater 7 років тому
Spunky1991 His transition guy right now is Mike Pence, his VP elect. By that logic, Chris Christie was also "establishment." And, OF COURSE, he's going to say "I'll rely on their advice." He's being gracious and being a good winner. He also said "Thanks Hillary for your service." Do you really think he means any of that? Of course not. Right now the country is utterly divided and are you stupid that he's going to come out, guns blazing and with fire and brim-stone before having even served a single day in office? You don't understand business and negotiations, do you? It's stupid to begin any transaction by being a hardass. You so desperately want to discredit him that you're telling people "Look, see? I was right." No, you weren't. That's called confirmation bias. Look at things from the point where he is. The country is completely torn apart right now, more divided than ever. He has to show some level of diplomacy, ya know ,before actually even serving one day.

True story Teddy Roosevelt had invited Booker T Washington for dinner at the White House, and he got in so much hot water with mostly southern politicians over it. For the next 30 years, not a single person of color was invited to the White House as a guess.

Dave's monologue was better than anything SNL has done in like 10 years.

I love Chappelle but I wonder how Jefferies/Burr would do on an SNL.

This guy is so brilliant. I started performing standup 2 years ago, and sometimes when I watch him I just think, "what's the point?" But I'll find my voice someday.
