At the very least we should see a completed boostback burn and the ship reaching its target velocity and trajectory. The biggest “if” imho is whether the ship survives atmospheric reentry intact. Otherwise, I think we’ll see a successful raptor relight on the ship, and a successful booster relight for the landing burn. We’ll probably see a successful booster splashdown too if nothing goes wrong - SpaceX already has lots of experience landing Falcon 9 boosters, and a lot of the techniques behind those landings can carry over to Super Heavy. Thanks again for the breakdown of changes ahead of flight test 3! Go Starship!

I still think the booster flip and boostback phase has the most variables and is the riskiest. There’s also the possibility that we got “lucky” on IFT-2, and we may see one or two Raptor failures on the booster, and possibly a more significant issue earlier on with starship. I hope not (as they’ve undoubtedly got a TON of data which should have showed slight issues that they would have fixed already) but I’m still not super confident. Given the variables here, I’m hoping that we have at least SOME coverage of the booster and ship splashdowns if they make it that far. Given how critical that phase is for data purposes, I’m sure they’ll have at least a few options for recording things.

@@jessem6124 same, I think many are already losing appreciation for just how complex and massive this rocket system really is (I mean, just a single raptor engine by itself is kinda crazy.) In my head, I just see millions of parts, insane chamber pressures and turbo pump speeds, enough explosive potential to match a small tactical nuclear bomb, etc. It’s definitely going to be a nail biter every time for me, at least for quite a while.

Could the fact that the ship is higher be also a reason that it takes longer to fill? Because of the greater hight, there would be more pressure required to lift the fuel compared to the booster

I think they start the ship load a few minutes ahead as the booster fills faster which means they will both finish at the same time.

There are probably fewer pumps on ship. However, even if they both had the equal number of pumps, ship would still be slower due to more head pressure from the extra vertical height. It takes more power to pump fluid higher.

FAA license for IFT3 was granted 4:50PM CDT. Tomorrow is on. I have comment on "Second Pad Concept Art" (3:12). It shows a second pad and second tower west of the first. My guess is that SpaceX will only build the tower. This will be used for demonstrating "the catch" without endangering the launch pad, which is much more complex, and the nearby tank farm. Once caught, the Super Heavy booster can be set on top of a self-propelled modular transporter and moved into one of the manufacturing bays for examination and refurbishment.

Has anyone said if we're to expect video on the SS re-entry from ship or air based platforms? With re-entry blackout, I assume some sort of visual/IR will be needed to verify it doesn't burn-up mid-entry...?

The middle of the Indian ocean is a quite remote location, and there is an exclusion zone for human safety, as it is very possible that the ship breaks apart on re-entry. Even unmanned drones would have to cover quite the distance to be able to film the event. So we might simply not get a video feed of the crash area, unfortunately.

Everything I have heard is that the second tower will be the same height. This is also based on the tower sections built at Starbase or those en route or still at the Cape. Regardless, it will be 18 months or so before it's built.

There is a 7 hour time difference from Boca Chica, Texas to South Africa. So if starship launches at 7:30 am it would be over South Africa soon after 3pm. The total flight time is about an hour. The big IF is if it launches at that time as numerous circumstances could delay it.

My guess is that almost all objectives will be completed except Starship landing. There's a high chance that heat tiles will fall off over the jurney and the Starship will not survive re-entry.

@@nexyr_ Road closure is already planned and announced. Weather is likely predicted to be acceptable, but you never know before the day comes. The launch license isn't needed until takeoff, but I doubt they would start the propellant load until they get it approved.

They're going to have to transfer fuel from one vehicle to another, in space, during future missions. Essentially, this is still a tank to tabk transfer, it's just happening within the same vehicle. It's more about proving that a cryogenic liquid can be moved in space from one tank to another.

@NASASpaceflight or anyone else, is there anywhere prelaunch where we can listen to the Mission Director over the voice nets do the prelaunch polls go/no-go? On live SpaceX brodcasts they dont really brodcast nuch of it except for 10 mins prior and by that time the polls get missed think they run it aboy an hour earlier. In a dream world I really would love a 4K a clean feed with launchpad audio, the voice nets audio and vehicle data overlay with no commentary

My cynical, unqualified, armchair-engineer side thinks there'll be structural failure of the Starship hull due to the payload bay's overly-generous span along the ship's cross-section. This will be the first launch where the door isn't welded shut, so I'll be biting my nails during max Q.
