I will say, the kids who are working on putting the field fire out, are doing a great job! I do see that the fire department is there in the background and for the edges of a fire like this, as a firefighter, I would do something similar to extinguish. Personally, I would have chosen a rake or shovel with a longer handle, but that's just me! Here's your yearly reminder, when you light a firework, put it in reverse, Terry! Make sure you have a hose or extinguisher handy and, if it's dry in your area, choose an area without vegetation, pre water your grass, or just don't do fireworks. Stay safe everyone!

I admit, I hate fireworks. Not only do they scare my three dogs, but my own house burned down in 2014. Not because of fireworks, but anything fire related makes me paranoid. Luckily, my bedroom is insulated from the outside, so when the holidays come, I just gather the dogs and hide in there. It's pretty chill!

One of our cats is terrified of fireworks, just like a dog. She hides under the bed all evening. I have some stuff I bought from Jackson Galaxy to help calm her down this year. Hoping it works. It's really sad to see her so freaked out. It's also really awful seeing how many dogs end up at the shelters the next morning. People....KEEP YOUR DOG INSIDE and SECURE!!! In my country there's a lot of discussion about fireworks in independence day because like 30% of the adults in here have PTSD from war, and also independence day is right after memorial day (because, you know, this is just an amazing idea to build the country on militarism and revenge (it's not really build on revenge but it also kinda is)). Also we don't really have the kind of fireworks you sell on the store to random people, it is more like the big ones that are lit buy the city/town's consule, and the coolest solution I've heard of is drones that imitate fireworks

I think it's a hilarious "only in L.A." kind of thing that there were SO many different angle shots of the firework that hit the high rise. You know there had to be dozens more videos of it, as well. We only saw the ones that the news station found. A realist looking, film-style video could be pieced together from those. 😂 (gross trigger warning) I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but in one of the drone shots of the boat party, there was a quick shot of a guy standing in the water, talking to some girls on a boat, being totally oblivious to the cloud of vomit floating up behind him in the water. 🤮

My bf is an EMT and the first 4th of July he worked, he was flagged down by someone whose friend thought it would be funny to light a firework and toss it to him, probably as a drunken prank. My bf refused to describe the guy's hand to me bc he knew it would upset me which I was very grateful for.

to your point about people leaving their fireworks in the road: when we still did a big fireworks thing on the Fourth, my dad would always spray down anything that we had set off, but since they would still be hot, he would leave them overnight to cool off and throw them away in the morning. However, he would NOT leave them in the middle of the street, but scoot them into the gutter at the edge of our driveway to cool off there :)

My uncle last year had a whole table covered in Fireworks, he spent ten thousand dollars. Not kidding. The firework show that year was awesome, but I got hit in the leg with a smaller one, and one of them misfired and shot into the crowd of my large extended family!

So in my old neighborhood we had some neighbors that would spend thousands on fireworks and would invite the neighbors to watch. They were super super cautious and would clean up right after. They would provide the fireworks, you were responsible for your own seating, refreshments etc. We looked forward to it every year!

Where I live fireworks are totally illegal without a license. Because it's Southern California the plants here are totally dry and catch fire so easily. Living through times when it seems your whole county is on fire is horrifying. That said it doesn't stop my neighbors who live near a canyon from lighting fireworks on any occasion they can.

In Australia (I’m in QLD don’t know about other states specifically but generally), you have to have two different licenses to have, buy, use, manufacture etc fireworks and most of, if not all, firework shows are done by regional governments only for shows/exhibits or special days like New Years and stuff And if the weather is not good, like cloudy or stormy or the wind is too strong they usually cancel, sometimes delay, the fireworks, they are very strict with them but they are magnificent Also they are only done on piers over the ocean, over rivers, or really wide open spaces with no burnable things nearby, and no one except the event coordinators are allowed to be close to/directly under them. American firework usage and displays are baffling and honestly quite horrifying, the implications of having free use over explosives…

I got a petty revenge scenario for someone who has a neighbor who insists on setting off fireworks late at night. Get a small Bluetooth speaker and set it up somewhere that no one can see it. Turn it up to full volume. Connect it to a wireless microphone that's near the dog with the squeak-toy shown here and let them go nuts with the squeaking. But make sure it's on a random night when there are no fireworks and those neighbors are just outside enjoying a firepit or something like that.

Where I live, fireworks are incredibly popular , but it's a little dangerous to drive around where I live on 4th of July night. I remember one year we were driving home and people were shooting fireworks across the road and one landed on the hood of my dad's car , thankfully it flew off the hood of the car ,but that's why my dad tries to avoid driving the roads on the night of 4th of July.

Things I learned growing up... Never try to launch a mortar shell from a PVC pipe... Don't pile all the sparklers in one place... especially if you're sitting on the ground and that place is between you're legs... Those sparklers give off a lot of stray sparks. Some dogs will try everything they can to bury fireworks.

When I was a child , my (Then) Stepfather decided it’d be funny to throw a spinning sparkler (looks like a bumblebee, meant to be on the ground) at a woman at the Fourth of July party we were attending. That was the first time in my young life, I ever saw an adult cry, and he was laughing. It was maniacal and just a glimpse of how irresponsible people are, no matter how old.

One Christmas my ""neighbors"" starting using fireworks and they target one at my house (4th floor) and the ducking firework hit my grandpa on the ear (it was the one that just whistle when you fire them) but we couldn't do anything against our neighbors bc they had a family member that is a thief and use Dr*gs so even if we call the police they wouldn't do anything, my grandpa just scream at them and they apologize (bad English alert) (my grandpa is still alive and healthy just have hearing problem)

My state allows fireworks but my city doesn’t. I’m so glad too because it’s a million degrees, it’s dry, it’s windy, the whole area is like a tinderbox already. Plus, we’re right on the water and when I was a kid, the pollution in the Gulf from fireworks was awful. It does so much damage to sea life. The city does a big fireworks show over the water (and cleans it up) and I feel like that’s good enough for me. I can get my dogs, cat and (most importantly) my sound-sensitive kid through that 20 minute show and that’s enough. But there will still be people all around us shooting off fireworks until midnight. There always are. And they’ll probably do it on the 3rd and the 5th too. But at least it’s fewer people than if it was just a free for all.

My protocol for picking up trash/firework residue is that right after you set off those puny party poppers you pick up whatever you can see- it's usually in a pile on the floor anyway unless it is windy. Where I'm at we don't have those huge fireworks (well they are illegal). We also have a designated area for the "Fireworks" and we don't set it off if someone is in that area and we don't set it off if there is stuff from the previous one, to not start a fire depending on what we use

In the field fire video, you can see the fire engine's lights on the far side. Poor kids. At least they did it on accident. My older sibling wanted to light a very dry field on fire in the dry season in Arizona in the middle of Dobson (a sizeable city) just to find a shuriken he threw between the fence boards... I ended up grabbing the hose, dragging it out, and dousing both the flames and my brother because I was not going to be the cause or near the cause of a giant fire in the city, when there was a no burn order in place.

Live in Natchitoches, LA! We have fireworks EVERY Saturday from Thanksgiving through New Year, Memorial Day, July 4th, and random days throughout the year. They do not phase my dogs. Most town folks don't even bother to go watch. I haven't in years even though I can see them from my driveway.

Fireworks give me panic attacks because my school was in a shooting were someone was killed, plus when I was younger I also saw someone get shot so I've always been scared of them. So this 4th of July I'm going to be curled up in my closet with my noise cancelling headphones and hoping no noise goes through while I try and sleep.

Arizona allows fireworks now but they didn’t when I was a kid. I remember my mom’s whole family would get everyone loaded up and take a “family trip to the Catwalk Trail” in New Mexico a few days before the 4th. We’d all get loaded up with fireworks sold by people in food truck style “shops”. Whoever ended up buying the best voted firework on 4th of July got paid however much that firework costed from every adult family member. It’s one of my favorite memories as a kid because I got to walk the Catwalk AND get illegal fireworks😂😂😅

I work for an insurance company. Last year someone swept up their fireworks debris, put it in their garbage can and went to bed. The garbage can caught on fire in the garage and they ended up losing half their home 😢

Where I live, they have banned fireworks, but of course, people still buy them and set them off. The city encouraged people to call a nonemergency number to turn people in, I didn't because people were respectful about them. My cat is terrified but tried to let me comfort him. He finally had to hide for the night. I hope next year I will find something to help keep him calm.

My town is on a river and we have a massive firework show and i went down to watch the fireworks, i ran into my mom who literally brought her dog down to the show, no hearing protection for him or even a harness to stop him from running away, it pissed me off so much, take care of your dogs people!

Omg this reminds me when I was about 10 years old, my mom and I wanted to shoot off fireworks so we went up to the drug store to get a package of fireworks, nothing elaborate. Well, there was this firework called the "Killer Bee" that was supposed to just whistle and have like a fountain of colors. My mom lights it and runs to stand next to me at least 20 ft. away. The damn firework had fell over pointed towards us. This thing literally flew pass our heads, right in between us, inches from our heads. We were in such shock and so freaked out, we were done with fireworks after that. I will NEVER buy fireworks from a drug store/gas station again and haven't. I spent like $500 last year and we had at least an hour and half of fun. The phone thing is smarter but I feel there may be more room for error. Whatever you do, please be careful and responsible!

My poor dog hates fireworks. We live near one of those rundown looking fireworks stores on the side of the road. Not a fun time. lol

I didn't like the waste of the poppers as a kid so i convinced my cousins to pop them over the little indoor trellis our Nana had. Still wasteful, but they at least had a purpose for a little while lol. Those lil streamers stayed on there for a few months lol.

One year like 10 years ago we had quite a lot of family over for bonfire night (British holiday where fireworks are set off) and like always ended up having to move all the cooking inside (everyone always got impatient because the food took too long on the BBQ). My grandad went inside to get himself a burger just as my dad started setting up another firework. The door closest to our back garden is at the side of the house where there's like a little corridor. Anyway my dad lit the firework and moved away and then as it was getting ready to set off it tipped over and pointed straight down the part down the side of the house. Just as it sets off my grandad comes out with his burger and it skims THROUGH HIS HAIR. Like centimeters from his forehead. If he had come out just a second sooner or the firework took a millisecond more too shoot he would've been hit and might not have lived as long as he did (he passed away on the 10th October this year so still grieving). Even though I was only like 8 or maybe younger I still have a vivid memory of that day and I think it was definitely my wakeup call of how dangerous fireworks can be. Always make sure to be careful guys literally a second could've changed that story from one of insane luck to multiple children witnessing something traumatising.

I love fireworks BUT I live on the 16th floor, and one random day someone lit it under the building and it popped RIGHT AT MY WINDOW as I was sleeping ! I woke up confused and scared RUNNING in the house 😭 add the smell of it and the smoke ... I thought I was at war for a minute 😭

In our family, we have a bucket that all fireworks have to go into that’s filled with water right after they go off, someone goes out with like a broom and a dustpan and put it into the buckets. That way they aren’t going to reignite, because that is a possibility if you’re not extinguishing them with water, and then making sure that we sweep up all the poppet stuff that gets left on the ground from those tiny explosions.

I went to a 4th of July Party at a friends house. I had knee surgery so I was in a lawn chair & my daughter, age 6, was sitting near me. The men where lighting the fireworks. Well someone accidentally dropped a match in box with the fireworks. It was total chaos people running everywhere & fireworks going off in all directions. I fell out of the chair trying to get to my daughter because I couldn't walk without crutches. Amazing no one was hurt or property damaged.

When she talks about her parents dogs I saw the name of that black pup and I was like my dog is also named Lucy and she also got one of those vest things for thunder and fireworks so just saying I relate to that lol

Our big displays are on a lake or the river. I've been to a city display that caught fire then all the fireworks went off at once.

We had a fire in our yard which is smaller but looks similar. I would bet they are at near near Washington state, so the grass will fill back by the next year at least. It's just whatever wild grasses happen to grow out here, so it's not like a crop loss.

My cousins had a dog show up on 4th of July. He was always terrified of fireworks. They never found his original owners and had him for about 10 years. Then they forgot to lock him in the house one July 4th and he ran away and never came back. 😢

When I was littler, about 10 years old we were doing a neighborhood fourth of july thing and my neighbors son who was like 6 got shot in the face with a firework. I was already scared of them but it just got worse after that
