My strategy that worked beautifully because I wasn't constantly monitored at my last job was to work really hard for half an hour, then take a break. The length of the breaks would expand or shrink to meet what was actually necessary to "Do my job". They loved me and I basically worked stress free. Simultaneously productive and lazy by alternating the two.

I used to work as fast as I could, I got compliments, all hoping maybe I'd get a promotion. I was fifteen. Later I was suggested to "reconsider my position" working there because I didn't give my manager two weeks notice about missing work for my uncle's funeral. My uncle, by the way, killed himself. I remember the only reason my family allowed me to quit was because my sister heard my manager yelling at me over the phone. Again, I was FIFTEEN. I'm 18 now, and I haven't been working for awhile. This new mindset, I kind of want to work again.

When you work at a start-up company and your boss or your team tells you that there are "no hierarchies here, we're all equal" (in Germany the buzzword is "flache Hierarchien"), don't believe those hipsters. The moment you truly start acting as if you're equal, you'll realize that you're not. That's why you should never be too open or too honest with your boss, no matter how hard they pretend to be your equal or your friend. Even if you work for a non-profit company or social project: If they have the power to fire you, then you are not equal.

I can confirm this 100%. Officially, everyone is all buddy buddy, but may God have mercy upon your soul if you ever accidentally step on one of your bosses‘ egos with a single toe… or, heaven forbid, ask for improvements/changes, so you can do your job better. Then, at the latest, you’ll know that it’s all just public relations with little to no substance.

@@leovolont I did work retail for a company called Tesco a big multi-national. In a meeting we were told that the store was losing £20k per week because of theft and the manager also said it was the staff doing it. In my time there I only saw 3 members of staff sacked for theft. The store was taking over £1.2 million a week in sales. This was a company that was using all means in cut it tax bill. Also the newly appointed CEO was removed after six months in the job but still walked away with a £2.3 million golden hand shake. The reason for low wages is the destruction of unions. At another company I was told by the management that we can't start a union without 75% of the staff wanting a union. They even told use that we were not to speak to any union reps that would sometime be out side the work place. Turns out that you can join a union as a individual. Also you sound a bit la la, but maybe it something just lost in translation. if you look in to it and do some research you're find that this sort of theft is the lowest and what those higher up steel is the major. Look at the UK and the cronyism that is going on there at the moment. In the UK it said that there is over £1 billion of freud in benefits. Which most is shown to be over payments and not people trying to con the government and at the same time the UK loses £32 billion in taxes because corporation's have the means to avoid and evade paying their taxes in full.

@@pauljays1162 Hi Paul, Yeah, okay, I hear everything that you're saying. Everybody thinks I have some kind of Ideology here. I don't. I'm just cynically realiistic. I did a Video Series a while back, well, recently, "Democracy Is a Bad Thing"... Democracy was a Weapon that the Business Classes used to take power from the Kings. The Revolution was a Capitalist Victory. Paul, the West belongs to them. Also, they are not Evil People. Paul, put yourself in their shoes. Pretend that you suddenly strike it rich, and you get swept up into High Society and have a whole new set of friends, you know, the Country Club set. Okay, how long will you still be writing essays like the one you just wrote? They have Money. They have Power. They are not going to Prosecute each other for Taxes. They're going to be free and easy with Bonuses to themselves. Why not? It's THEIR Money. Paul, why do we even exist. Our Parents must have known that we had no Trust Funds, no Endowments waiting for us. My Parents went through the Great Depression and the World War II and I was born during the Nuclear Age. What the hell were they thinking!? What kind of life was I supposed to lead. I'd just be struggling to get by. They thought the Depression was just a fluke? Anyway, Paul, we can't Blame the Rich for our problems. In my Video Series "Revolution From the Top" I make the argument that with the Machine Intelligence Age Humanity will be Freed from Labor and Wage Slavery. That's a good thing. But we won't need Workers anymore, and it would be ridiculous to keep us around. WE, 7 Billion of us, are causing all the Global Warming. We are causing the extinction of species. We are covering field and forest with concrete. We Are a Cancer on the Face of the Earth. The Rich would be less than 1% of us. They could be HAPPY. Yeah, that is an interesting Series... I might redo it because I have a few new ideas. Really, I'm actually hoping that China and North Korea can make it. They aren't Democracies, the Agency for Capitalism, and they have STRONG Public Sectors and they can PLAN their Population levels. The Rich have always had the instinct to Plan their Family Sizes... dividing the Estate destroys the Estate. But, yeah, my "Revolution From the Top" Series doesn't mention China because, well, I wouldn't want to jinx them, but they also will be faced with the problem of what to do with a USELESS Population. Remember how the Economy used to be a Horse Power Economy. Thousands of horses all over the place. When was the the last time you saw a live horse? Workers are now the Horses.

10:18 When people ask me for financial tips to save money I always use this labour value exercise: 1) Set your average salary per hour (here in Brazil most people get the salary after the day or after the month); 2) When buying things don't see the price in money, see it in work hours; 3) Then ask yourself (for example): "Is it worth it to spend 50h of my LIFE for that kind of shoes when I can get the same result spending less?" It works wonders 😁 Anyway great video and great tips! 👍

Your fish metaphor reminds me of something my mom used to say. "Ignorance is bliss, but knowledge is freedom." That's a motto I've lived by for years, and it's helped me so much. I'm glad to see a content creator share a similar outlook on life with their audience.

i don't understand how knowing you live in a piss filled tank could ever make you feel better about your situation. Knowledge is a means to an end. There is no reward in it of itself. It is only useful when you can extract value out of it.
@fatcat1414
@fatcat1414 2 роки тому
@@magiicZed You're right, knowledge itself is not inherently rewarding, but it is a very important tool, and it is what you make of it. You can always extract value from knowing how the world works, imo. If you pardon me extending the fish metaphor a bit more: if the ignorant fish lives their life in the barrel by the rules of the ocean, they will often find themselves disappointed or even hurt. The knowledgable fish is able to adapt to the conditions of the barrel better, or even improve the conditions themselves. The ignorant fish will have difficulty doing any of that, because they don't even know that their life *can* be better. They think they're in the ocean! The ocean may be a bit cramped and taste like piss, but how can you get any better than the ocean? And then there's the idea of an escape plan. The ignorant fish can't even conceive of an escape plan because, well, they don't even think they're trapped. The knowledgable fish will be able to plan an escape to the ocean, if not for them, then for future generations of barrel fish. So maybe knowledge is not so much freedom as it is a crowbar, but I don't think that would make the saying sound quite as nice, lol.

The moralists who end up running a lot of homeless outreach for self-righteous reasons will go on about how they will spend it on drugs or whatever, and the fact that you don't know what they will spend it on aside, keep in mind that they spend it on drugs because they have little better to do. They're homeless. They don't have a house to go back to, a TV to go watch, a computer to go play games on, etc, they have to deal with constant bullshit all day and they don't have anywhere to go where they can be alone and not deal with it. They are using drugs because it sucks to be homeless. Instead of blaming them for literally anything they do, blame capitalism: the way the system allocates property and resource is literally the only reason we have homelessness. This was… surprisingly accurate and good advice. As a kid born into a very, very, privileged family, I can safely say that all of this remains true no matter where you’re at in life. Some of the most miserable people I know are excessively wealthy and it’s because they stay on the little capitalist treadmill, forever buying more and more expensive things as the need to maintain “face” increases with their wealth. Don’t buy into the lie that having more capital means more fulfillment in life. Yes, you need a certain amount of material wealth to stay living and comfortable. But stay in the consumer, capitalist mindset and you’ll forever be miserable no matter what you have. One of the things I’m still learning to deconstruct myself is the attachment of my worth to my productivity.

My mom grew up in the 80s and 90s, and she’s as consumerist as they get. However, the most fundamental lessons in my upbringing was to never rent. Being a black person, she equated it to the concept of sharecropping or even slavery, as with many other questionable capitalist practices of her employment. Deep down, I feel like many people of backgrounds similar to black and Chinese people in America understand that capitalism is an exploitative institution, even while they may live lifestyles similar to that being explained in this video in order to live comfortably and provide for their families. In america almost everything you learn as 'common wisdom' is horseshit. Thats necessary to continueing an empire, and a fairly self destructive one at that. I saw a documentary with a black writer who started on 'good times' int he seventies, and he said the week he started the writers who were white, came to him and told him the cast was unhappy but they didn't know why. He read their script and saw that the show they did was basically the family celebrating that they got welfare. He told them in the black community it was actually very embarassing to get welfare, but of couse the 'white' version of that is that welfare is a big party. Thats a good point about buying, its harder work but I always tell young people to go to a credit union and get to know the people there. They are goign to WANT to lend you money, but only if they know you will you get trust because banks are designed to lend money to people who ALREADY have money. But its a big difference. For one thing, during covid they did a poll that about HALF of young women renting were offered rent in exchange for sex. In other words on a tight month you can sell your body for a break. If thast not exploitative, I don't know what is.

As a white dude, this hits hard. Everyone knows owning is better than renting. Too many ignorant privilaged people think poor people choose to rent. If you can own a home, absolutely try. It helps you ride out things like the housing bubbles. Because we owned a home before 2020, when house prices doubled we didn't see an increase in rent. If you can't own a home, own your car. Housing is problematic. I cannot afford to buy a home, even with a good job. When you buy a house for 300 000 and pay 250 000 to rent that money (interest), you work solely for the person you already paid back for five years if you get paid a net salary of 50 000 a year. That is part of the capitalist scam, as well, where someone gets huge financial advantages for doing no work. The way I handle non-essential purposes is thus: How many hours of joy will this purchase bring? Is it greater than the number of hours it would take to make that amount of money? If so, go ahead. If not, hold onto that money.
@thatyoutubechannel9953
@thatyoutubechannel9953 2 роки тому
Examples - I recently bought a phone. It cost me about $150. The minimum wage in my state is $12.00, so it would take me 12.5 hours to recoup that cost at minimum wage. I spend hours on my phone every day, so it makes sense to buy this phone. Now let's say I want a TV that costs $1000. That would take about 83 hours to pay for. I rarely watch TV and I don't play console video games, so I probably would only use that TV 83 hours after multiple years if ever. So I'll spend that $1000 on something I'll use more often.

Great formula! I would also add quality of joy. Sometimes a book is very short but expensive. Realistically I might finish it in an hour or two, and with your formula it might not be worth it. But the book might bring me enough joy to make it worth it! Same with movie tickets. Pre-pandemic times, cinema had already become fucking expensive in my country. Going to the cinema as a family was... not cheap. But I still "sacrificed" my money every once in a while for a two hour movie, because the cinematic experience brings me a lot of joy, especially if I go with my loved ones. So that's my addition.

@@vickytaa1 Oh see I like to count positive reflection upon time spent with the purchase as part of the purchase. I usually just pirate movies and books to watch/read on my phone, but the one media I'll spend money on sometimes is video games - if a really good video game is only 4 hours but it costs $60, I may spend that cash because I know I'm going to have good memories that way. Same goes for travel. A single trip for a few days may cost several hundred dollars, and you may only get to do what you went there to do for say 20 hours, but you'll keep that experience much longer than basically anything else. Bearing in mind how difficult it is to unionise because they are some of the most oppressed people, often enticed to work on visas from very poor places (whose work related health conditions sometimes start to show up after they've been sent back to their own country & the employer can clean their hands of responsibility), who end up taking that work that most of us consuming the products they create would not do once.

While I'm sure someone more creative than me might be able to come up with an idea, I feel like it's still worth saying that there are times where there really isn't anything we can do (in the short term at least). What I always think about are the workers in Africa, Asia, and South America who are a world away but endure some of the worst conditions possible, and it is just incredibly inhumane and sad how grotesquely they're exploited by the imperial core. But that being said, I, as an American high school student preoccupied with trying to prepare for college, can't directly do anything to alleviate that. But what I can do is work to spread class conciousness and uplift those in my direct community. I along with some of my comrades here in Texas are working on starting up a mutual aid program, that helps not only with essential resources but also with study, offering free assistance to those in need. Focusing on issues people are having well outside your viscinity and attempting to fix them is (imho) exhaustive and seldom yeilds tangible results. Now if you've put together a whole group or something that's a different story, but nonetheless I'd argue that the best thing you can do are the small, local things in your community. If the opportunity presents itself, the movement may expand further, but in order for us to secure our future and the health of the world, we must first ensure the viability of the enviornment with which we surround ourselves.

@@DialecticRed All amazing things to do! Mutual Aid ftw. I guess when it comes to other issues such as how Amazon workers are treated, people boycott Amazon. Or boycott Nestle for their exploitation of children. It's an individual act that is seen as the right thing to do. But will people boycott animal products? It has turned out to be one of the most exploitative industries going. Not only are living beings turned into commodities themselves, but it is one of the worst work situations for human exploitation also. So I'm proposing people add animal products to their list to boycott. Because those commodities and jobs should not continue. A boycott doesn't solve the problem for all currently exploited, but it is as good a start as boycotting Amazon or Nestle, with immediate impact (also for the climate crisis), for folk who are able to. Those commodities & work only exist because we are participating in it (let's not forget billions in govt subsidies worldwide also, without which it would cost a lot to grow plants to feed to animals and raise them for 1-5 years - the true cost of animal products). Great video! I would like to add three important things: 1. Work: try to become a self-employed freelancer as much as possible (if your bourgeois nation state doesn't make that impossible via taxation and/or bureaucracy) OR (even better) try to form a worker co-operative with your fellow comrades - once again, if your country's laws permit the formation of worker co-ops... not all countries do! e.g. in my home country, Hungary, there's a stigma on worker co-ops bc they're still associated with the previous regime and hence they are illegal. If you live in a luckier country than mine and have fellow comrades who are up for it... do it. Of course I'm not advocating that worker co-ops are THE way out of capitalism (no need to recite the 'Critique of the Gotha Programme', thank you) but they are usually nice little left-wing pockets of resistance within the system. And no wage labour for those involved - if it really is true workplace democracy. 2. Spending money: same. Try to support self-employed working people around you and worker co-ops (if they are legal in your country and if there's one nearby), if possible. Like your local leftie café that is run by its members or something. Yeah buy that overpriced vegan sandwich (if you can afford it...) or whatever, it supports your comrades. A note on self-employed people: do double check whether they're really self-employed or if they actually have someone working for them but who isn't always with them. Like I've met petit bourgeois plumbers like this - at first I thought they were self-employed but then I realized they have an employee or two of their own. Switched to someone who's truly self-employed. 3. The Cause and the Struggle: even if you're self-employed or freelancing or doing worker co-op, DO NOT FORGET ABOUT YOUR COMRADES STUCK IN WAGE SLAVERY!!! Support their unionization efforts and their existing unions, give them financial aid, welcome them to your worker co-op (if you have the capacity for a new member) or help them set up their own solo business, organize, mutual aid, etc etc etc

The frustrating thing is, what if you care about your work because it does matter--like, it's literally life or death, like at a hospital or a RAINN hotline or something--but you are still being exploited and burnt out. How to set / enforce boundaries when, say, slacking off or leaving early could seriously harm someone? Like, they are in pain hours more than they had to be, because you didn't check in right away? Maybe it's because of my location (or my gender?) but most people in my social circle do not have "bullshit" jobs. We have underpaid jobs where people depend on our work for wellbeing or life itself. I know people who quit and got higher paying jobs, but not vital jobs. Or, similar work, but for rich people rather than Medicaid patients. And everybody talks about the quitters behind their backs. It's like "Mean Girls" like "you can't sit with us" when someone leaves but still wants to be friends. I think it's toxic, but I don't know what to do about it. Does anyone know of any leftist material aimed at caregivers or those in a healthcare setting? Ideally not for highly-paid doctors, but for nursing home staff, laundry cleaners, technicians, etc? In particular any materials on how to unionize in this setting.

I can't half ass my job because the only ones who get hurt are my students. And the pay is not only terrible; it also doesn't account for the hundreds of extra hours we have to regularly work. Teachers only get paid for the hours spent inside a classroom teaching. But every hour of class requires time of preparation, time for correcting exams and student work, time for investigating and actualization of knowledge. I have calculated that for every six hours of teaching, I need at least (at least! Sometimes more) two extra hours of this work I mentioned before. It really is a terrible situation.

This is more or less what I’ve been doing at my job. I’m only 19 and I work at a fast casual sushi place but when I’m given thirteen dollars to spend on food for my shift, I spend every penny of it. At the end of my shift, I clean as much as I can in the time I’m scheduled for and then leave as soon as the time on my schedule I previously agreed to. The only extra hours I work are when my coworkers need help, not when my bosses tell me to. We also recently lost 3/4 of our staff and you can be damn sure I leveraged that into a raise. They literally can’t afford to lose me so now I’m getting paid extra for the same work. Ive also been talking about wages with my fellow workers. Everyone I work with is 15-20 meaning we’re all new to the workforce. I’ve been using that to slowly teach my coworkers about socialist ideology but packaging it in the idea of “don’t let the boss man screw you over.” Recently, our extremely hardworking and kind manager was moved to another store while she was away on vacation and wasn’t able to fight the decision so everyone at my work is in a particularly pissed off mood towards our corporate offices. I know all of this sounds like me just being annoying but we’ve essentially been left to fend for ourselves in this post COVID restaurant boom so I couldn’t care less about what the higher ups think since they’ve been no help to us.

I support the work that you do, but i mean speaking of consumerism drinking a lot of beer and alcoholic beverages is basically proof that you fell down into this consumerist rabbit hole yourself, and the fact that capitalists delightfully roll with it when people try to brand alcoholism with culture is even a bigger problem when trying to appropriate these "alcoholic" cultures which ends up with a lot of alcohol being consumed in favor of the capitalist feeding us shit we don't need. Speaking of a fish that understands it's in a barrel of piss for drunkards, you should be the first to address these cultural stereotypes instead of just roll with it and start drinking yourself in order to attract an audience. They give us shit wages, and then they feed us with alcohol with the few money that we are given in order to keep us docile and impotent. Drinking is just another way of escaping the reality the fish is in and hence rendering it an even bigger consumerist asset.
@spectator8285
@spectator8285 2 роки тому
@@Devodex drinking to excess is a problem, but simply enjoying alcohol is not a problem nor submission to consumerism. Same with smoking tobacco or marijuana, so long as you can maintain moderation. Taking mind-altering substances can be attractive for many reasons besides escaping the reality of capitalism, but I can see why you make the connection and raise the issue.
@Devodex
@Devodex 2 роки тому
@@spectator8285 my point is these items are also useless consumerist items created for profit, like most things in world. Whether its alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or cocaine. These were found to be profitable and hence the mass production for them even though they in no way truly help you out. The guy also points this out in his video, only buy things you truly need and limit consumerism. Well then do you really need alcohol and tobacco? There are other ways to experience happiness and release dopamine, items like alcohol and other drugs, whether low or high tier, end up ultimately making you crave the consumable more, which is why you end up having to "moderate" yourself. This ultimately makes alcohol even more worthless to buy than something like a diamond ring. You possess a diamond ring and wasted hard earned labour money for useless shiny material, but you're not becoming less productive by constantly buying and drinking; consuming alcohol and feeling the need to buy more because of the addiction it creates for releasing dopamine. There's a reason why they tie alcohol to many occasions, and in some cultures it simply becomes expected to consume alcohol in certain occasions, but if you're Russian, then I guess vodka is in your blood? Get my point?

@@Tankliker Hi Leopard. Oh, I'm putting a new Blog through Editorial Re-writes and did did a play on words with "A Leopard can't change it's spots"... I said, "If you think a Leopard can't change their spots, well these 'Leopards' are cats of a a different stripe." Cool, hu? NOW to business. You say the Goal of Unionization hasn't the goal of being competitive. Well, yeah, that's obvious. But are you talking about Unionizing Public or Private Corporations. Private Corporations would certainly prioritize competitiveness. Even Not For Profit Corporations would resist Unionization because Management can't Plan ahead on anything INTELLIGENTLY because nobody knows what the Workers will demand, and even Not For Profit Corporations need to be Efficient. Look at the Police Unions. In the USA the reason there is such a problem with the Police is because the Cop Unions act as a Second Chain of Command that actively works against the Actual Chain of Command. They do their Own Training (which is really fascist), and they train to be utter cowards... which is where "Shoot if you are Afraid" comes from. We ALL see the destructiveness of Cop Unions because WE suffer from all that Union Bullcrap. But EVERY Union is full of their own Bullcrap. Remember, the Workers have no Ownership Stake in the Company. Have you ever heard of Workers Pooling their Money to BUY Stock so they could elect Members to the Board of Directors? NO. Unless they do that, well, THEY JUST WORK THERE, right? Besides, the Point is almost mote now. The Machine Intelligence Age is swiftly overtaking us and it will be a Blessing and a Curse. Machines Will Liberate Humanity Once and For All from Labor and Wage Slavery. Cool huh? But we will lose our jobs. Watch my Short Series "Revolution From the top" for my ideas there (which I think I will update, having gotten a few new ideas... that come to me while I am doing hundreds of Comments). Leopard, you have a problem with your Perspective. You think Workers are important because they are people. Well, yeah, that shows that you have a sense of Social Morality which is cool. But, Social Morality is PERSIAN and the West is GREEK and that means that the West, the FREE West is BARBARIAN. We do not live by the Social Moral Ethos but by the Heroic or Barbarian Ethos, which is reallly Winner Take All. Might makes Right. Also, Money IS Power and the Rich have never had more Money. Inequality is at a Historical High. Yeah, the Left is banking on Democracy but remember that Capitalists CREATED WESTERN Democracy because they felt they could manage it through control of the Parties and the Media. As soon as the Leftists WIN any elections then Capitalists will PULL OUT. Yeah, see my Series "Democracy Is a Bad Thing". You've heard Leftists talk about Violent Revolution because they can't make Democracy work for them. So we can expect the Capitallists to take the same view, that NOBODY is entitled to their Property because of some Stupid Vote. Of course Poverty Stricken Beggars will VOTE to Confiscate Wealth, but it doesn't belong to them, does it? Yeah, you can argue the point with them, but it just sounds silly. It would be like you and your friends got together for a party and VOTED to SELL Peter's 2022 Toyota Lexus for enough money to order Six Pizza Pies and a Keg of Beer. Peter would tell you all to screw off, right? Also, Machine Intelligence will give the Super Rich IN-House power. I don't know why we haven't seen it already, but it wouldn't take that much to build Killer Drones with Off the Shelf Parts. And the Rich could make them Autonomous with built in Target Lists and Facial Recognition. What are they going to do... arrest a Drone? These Assassination Systems could be manufactured in Workerless Factories which means NO WITNESSES. This Technology is really form fit for 5G and so when 5G Coverage ever gets Coast to Coast then Hit Men will go out of business. Heck, it would be so EASY. You can have a Drone that could cruise on Wings and Electric Power at about 700 feet where nobody would hear or see it. It would only have to be large enough to carry a SMALL DENSE Heavy Dronelet designed to fall out of the sky and guide in on striking the Targets head. It would just need enough wing and control surfaces to adjust course but the Mother Drone will be smart enough to drop it into the "ball park". Guidance is EASY. You know the Anti-Jitter feature on Cameras... that circuit can be used as LOCK ON TARGET guidance. No shots fired. Somebody is walking up to a Rally Podium and THUNK just collapses to the ground with brains all over the place. So, yeah, Leopard, if you want to be realistic then give up Hope in Revolutionary Politics or Leftist Politics. The only way things could ever change is if the Capitalist Ownership Classes decided to be Socially Moral, but, the West is Greek, but the Good Guys were Persian. It would take the biggest miracle in the History of the World and the Left doesn't even believe in God.

@@imold5363 As they say "money is power" and so there is no way that Corporations could be imposed upon to accept Unionization. You know Rich People don't HAVE TO create companies and make products. I decided to go into the mental health field because I was tired of doing, what I felt, was useless work for capitalist corporations. If you’re in a care field, don’t be afraid to go the extra mile, so long as it’s serving others and not a for profit system. As always, put your own health and well-being first though. My main goal being a manager was always to do as much as I could to fix the things that I hated or that made no sense, like the fact that employee safety was completely disregarded when I was a server. I think the best rule I ever made for myself was to never ask or expect anyone to do something I wouldn’t do myself; Ask someone to wipe a table: sure, ask someone to wait an hour for the dishwasher to do the silverware so they could do the remaining 5 roll ups left: no, that’s ridiculous.
