I'm saved, I've met Jesus, and I've spent a lot of time at bible study but that never worked for me like it did for you. Satan isn't done with me yet. Don't just assume that what worked for you will work for everyone because it often doesn't. We both have the same faith, the same God, the same prayers, the same church, and yet I'm still here barely surviving. Count your blessings and don't take it for granted. And never assume it will work for everyone the way it did for you.

Tom, this past 2 years crazy . My daughter had twin baby. Boys. 3/2019 Baby James, was found to have liver disease. Through 19' and into 20' he held on . I struggled not to fall back into... I had to fall forward to God to stay Sane. Baby James the brave , graduated to heaven . I'm still torn... as a grandfather, I cry . His twin brother Hendrix the haze .. is 2 now . It made me tear up, too, my man. I used to drink a liter of whiskey every day or so. A fifth was "doing good"... I stopped the liquor long ago and only drank beer from then on, but still struggle. It's easy for me to crush 8, 10, 15 *strong* beers in a day (not your typical bud light). I've been building up the courage to stop for a couple weeks and plan to give it another real old fashioned shot very soon. This song and some of the comments here are exactly what I needed right now. That's awesome that you're doing so well. It's inspiring. Keep it up man.

Philippians is a good letter for that where Paul is literally saying he can endure any suffering because of the Lord. We all need to remember that if we pray, according to Gods will, he will listen. I've been entirely without belief for 40 years now and have lived a good life. I've never been addicted. We'll all be much better off when we hold ourselves accountable and stop relying on something outside our own conscience for that. By all means, if you need Jesus to not be harmful to yourself or others, keep that crutch so you don't but it just means you really have not gotten free of addiction at all. Just swamped one for another.

My husband is your age and is an alcoholic. He quit drinking on Dec 23 2020. 2 weeks of DTs, I stayed with him every moment (Alcohol Detox Center would be safest) but we did it at home. It will be a battle I will continue to help him fight! He’s doing incredible right now!

I am afraid, last time I tried, I had a heart attack, kinda reassured me to keep drinking.

someones son~~ hes 42 been drinking since he was 18, and no matter what i say he wont stop. Im a cripple thanks to his alcoholic dad. Prayers excepted as mine dont seem to be getting thru. His name is david, our Abba says where 2 or more are gathered in prayer He will hear. Can not count how many times ive found him lying in a fetal position i pray i never find him cold stone dead.

I lost my daughter to a 4wheeler accident & she was a meth addict. You’re right…the family is the addicts army. I gave my daughter full acceptance. She was still in the stage of the drug seemingly helping her cope with things. I feel God took her to save her & it hurts like hell. I’m praying for your daughter & you momma. It always gets worse before it gets better. Healing from a broken bone doesn't happen over night, it takes many painful nights and so does emotional healing. Keep digging into your bible and never forget that people at church are sinners and human too. Try not to judge God's love on a humans actions. I am praying for your healing, mind, body, and soul.

Tell him the old adage "Let go, Let God"...once you do, everything seems to fall into place...much love to you both...

100%. I was on and off opioids for almost 10 years. Horrible withdrawal everytime I stopped, never returned fully to normal so I continued using modestly. I ended up sacrificing it for God and this time I had zero withdrawal and the past lingering effects like depression and intensified pain levels went away like I'd never used opioids. God fully healed that because I gave it up for him alone. I'd already given up on myself in that regard so it was only for him. There are other things I'm still plagued with because I'm refusing to do the right thing. It's hard man, I want to do the right thing but I'm still stuck on a couple things and I know pretending to be perfect won't work because I don't mean it like I did with the opioids. Like you said, God helps those who help themselves. If something's not working out we can always take a look in the mirror and see the problem is us, not God. Imagine if God healed my opioid addiction before? I would have taken it for granted. It was only once I was out of hope, wanted nothing more than for that situation to be gone, laid my faith on God alone and made the sacrifice for him that I got better. I sometimes think about using opioids out of boredom, but I wouldn't dare because of what I've been through and the gratitude of what God has done. That gratitude wouldn't be the same if it came too early and I'd definitely go back. We aren't saved on our good works, we are saved by faith and God's grace. People expect to feel perfect because they quit drugs for a year. That's selfish, they did it for themselves, not out of faith and for God.

I know how that feels...just know that your momma wants the best for you so live your life to honor her by living your best life while still remembering the good times...My mom passed away unexpectedly 11 years ago & while it still hurts I know she wouldn't want me to be sad so I choose to be grateful she was my mom and smile when I think of her. I take comfort knowing she's watching over me in heaven just awaiting my arrival when it's my time to join her...until then I continue to be happy with the life she helped give me, I take care of my dad, my hubby & my kiddo. @@samanthaoberdier5462 I always considered myself a Christian because I was raised that way but it wasn’t until I went through some of the toughest times of my life after doing things “my way” that I really began to understand the role that faith plays. It doesn’t mean life magically becomes easy. The opposite actually. Once I made the conscious decision to really turn my life over, things got worse. So much worse. But I held tight. I prayed and I BELIEVED. I learned to give up my problems and I watch the situations I thought were destroying me turn out in my favor. I’m not rich, I struggle with addiction myself (cigarettes), I have one daughter who is not a believer. It wasn’t me who got us out of those situations like she thinks. I couldn’t do it. It was me just turning it over to God and watching the pieces move in amazement. I have peace because I know no matter what happens next, and trust me, it’s always something, it’s already handled. The pieces have been moving in Tom’s life to lead him where he is now. God has been listening, but we all still struggle with the demons. There is no escaping that, only the peace to know they won’t win. I believe our hope lies in the knowledge of that!

31 years old here, its definitely a process and we definitely don't realize until we start getting older even when we think we're on the right track, even when we have been on the right track, it gets more clear the more you understand and sadly the more you understand the worse you feel about the world.

Living a Christian life can be hard at times especially when u start growing a relationship with God That’s when the devil will try and attack and fill u with doubt and drag u back into worldly stuff bc he knows everyone’s weaknesses but once u get past that it gets easier through faith and prayer you just got to trust in the lord

Prime example is Upchurch. That man has gone through so much shit.

I can tell you that I’ve always been exposed to Christianity through my grandparents. However it wasn’t until some real personal stuff went on in my family and my wife got to her lowest point that we went to church. It took some searching at a couple different churches to find the right one. When you do find it, you will feel like that pastor is speaking directly to you. Like his sermons are meant for you. Don’t give up after going to 1 church because some speak to others differently. Find the one for you.

Me too, I can still remember being curled up in a ball and rocking back and forth in the passengers seat of the car going to the dealers thinking i have to be stronger than this and get my shit together. I stopped making those trips 4 years ago and there’s 2 things that go through my mind everyday, the thought of getting high and praying for the strength to never make those trips again. I've been down that terrible, scary path. I learned that it wasn't God who got lost. IT WAS ME!!! That's the moment when I realized that I was fighting Legion tooth and claw for my soul, and it wasn't a war that I could win by any earthly effort. I needed help. So I started searching. The more I came to know about the spiritual reality that surrounds us, the more convinced I have been that God is real, has no limits to His power, and deserves ALL THE PRAISE.

Prayers for you and your dad! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

God always hears our prayers when we pray with a clean and repentant heart. My dad died too...10 years ago now. I prayed so hard for him for 2 months, but he still died and left a huge hole in me and my family. But I know God heard my prayers. Sometimes there are things that cause someone to die anyway. Like I really think my dad was ready to go. He didn't want to fight anymore. God is never going to force someone to stay, just because we want them to. Anyway, just sharing my thoughts and experiences. I hope it helps. God loves you and didn't take your dad from you. Keep praying and get to know Him better through His Word...the Bible. Blessings my friend.

I’m 37 years old. My father passed from alcoholism when I was 9 and he was 38.His organs shutdown from liver damage and went into a coma. I still chase his ghost everyday and in a weird way I don’t feel worthy to out live the age he died. For years I tried to destroy myself so I wouldn’t make it past 38. The struggle is real for some many.

My dad quit on my 17th birthday.. I’ll be 49 this June and he’ll have 32 years sober. Best gift ever. He took 7 failed attempts but it was church, no..GOD… that made that final attempt stick. ❤
