In this video, I will show you how to make a Hydrogen Generator that produces HHO gas. Electrolysis is used here to separate the Hydrogen from the Oxygen in Water. The HHO produced is highly combustible and can be used as a fuel source.
I used Stainless Steel Hardware which is more expensive than normal steel or zinc-plated steel, however, it ensures that the electrodes do not corrode or contaminate the generator or the gas.
For the electrolyte either Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide should be used, using table salt will not produce as much gas and it will also produce chlorine gas and turn the water yellow.

My advice is use two bubblers when I was young I made one and only had one it back fired through the single bubbler and went to the main jar which was a pickle jar with the lid hot glued to seal it and increase the pressure of the gas, it blew the hot glued lid straight off and I wasn't sure if my hearing would come back, it did but I learned a valuable lesson there lol.

Had to show everyone the point of the safety device. I was confident it would work well because I pressure tested the whole unit before attempting something like that. Not having a bubbler could be really dangerous if some backflow was to occur as there is way more gas in the main generator.

you should put some medium-grade wire wool in the final pipe before the needle. this would have prevented a complete flashback to the bubbler. the air space above the water can be enough to cause an explosion, last thing you want is a glass bomb. Nice design, but risky being glass.
@lostforwar5619
@lostforwar5619 Місяць тому
wouldn't any water function as a one way valve?
@michaelwilson5055
@michaelwilson5055 Місяць тому
@lostforwar5619 correct that's the purpose of the bubbler. You're also supposed to have a flashback arrestor as a primary safety and the water in the bubbler as a secondary. if the flashback to the bubbler pushes enough water out of the way almost like it did in the video, it could ignite the hydrogen. if you Google flashback arrestor you'll see small inline devices that either have a membrane or a fine/medium wire wool being sold to prevent this. Edit: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/gn-TlYOZo4ppo6c.htmlsi=IZV-QjCBg-p6l5ko this is a spring-loaded flashback arrestor with multi stage safety.

@ThiagoBerenstein
@ThiagoBerenstein 2 місяці тому
wacky, I would use a plastic or metal container as a safety measure due to the pressure that the explosion makes inside the small space. And you could put a diode after the converter so that if there is unwanted contact between the plates, the current does not return with that amperage and damage the batteries.
@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 2 місяці тому
It was really difficult to find an appropriate container, just for video purposes i wanted it to be see through and all the plastic containers i found just wouldn't seal properly, i did look thick glass and it withheld the pressure of the explosion, but platic would have definitely been better. I plan to make a dry cell in the future so that'll be stainless steel plates with thick polycarbonate plastic and should be alot safer :)

This is a great build, seemingly quite powerful, and is almost giving me a Steampunk-ish vibe which I find really appealing, too. The video is quite informative as well, so well done! I do have a question, though, and that is; how would you go about separating the hydrogen and oxygen? I know I've seen devices in the past that would put a dividing wall between the cathodes and anode, and have a second exhaust from the separator jar, but I wonder if that's the most effective option?

@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 2 місяці тому
Thank you for the support 😁, It is possible to separate the oxygen and hydrogen, but for most applications its fine to have them mixed, most people split the two only to join it back together later which is pointless. Hydrogen needs oxygen to burn, and it also burns hotter with pure oxygen than if you were to ignite hygrogen gas in normal air as the concentration of oxygen is much lower in the air we breathe

Thank you for the compliment :)Yeah for a small engine a tube in the carburetor would be sufficient but for a car I think it would have to be more thought out, like maybe a high pressure injection system which you could time properly and avoid having your intake explode 😅

Researched a bit more and apparently for the mileage to go down you also need to tweak the ECU to reduce the amount of petrol that is injected.

@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 2 місяці тому
It would run for sure, just not sure for how long, you need to check what the max constant amperage is of the battery, if its low then you would need to limit the current so the battery doesn't over heat

would something like a JacobsParts FP5139 work in place of the 100w boost converter you used?
@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions Місяць тому
Yes definitely, another word for boost converter is a step up converter, the boost converter is only needed to control the current, so you could just forget the circuit boatd all together if you have a powerful power supply. I just checked and that converter has a max of 6amps, so you would get less hho and you would need to make sure the current doesn't exceed 6amps as the converter would overheat.

I used Stainless steel so it was completely unaffected, because Stainless steel does not rust, however if you used normal steel you'd probably start seeing rust after the first day of use
@Guindasman
@Guindasman 2 місяці тому
@@WackyInventions thanks but there seems to be many types of Stainless Steel as many other HHO videos insist that 316L is the best for this device. They say others will rust (despite the contradiction you mark, that if It is stainless...then it should not rust).
@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 2 місяці тому
@Guindasman yeah, ive heard about all those things, a budget friendly option would be to get old kitchen items, eg maybe an old stainless steel sink, stainless steel bowls or cooking splash backs, cooking stainless steel has one of the highest corrosion resistace level for the price(usually 304/304L). As you know rust would be bad if it went in our food, so it has to be high grade.
@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 2 місяці тому
Unless you're making a unit thats going to run for hours a day for many days. For a home project or science experiment, i wouldn't be too worried about what type of stainless steel you use it will still have corrosion resistance compared to steel.

@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 3 місяці тому
Thank you :) so basically first thing is to make sure there are no leaks in your system, a leak can cause a drop in pressure coming out the needle, and also the first time i used a thick needle and it resulted in a back fire, you need thin one, a surgical needle is the best i believe,like the ones you get injections with, but you just cut the sharp point off and use pliers to make the hole round again at the end as it gets squashed when you cut it. Feel free to ask more questions, i will do my best to help 😊 also make sure the water is filled as high as possible so even if there is a back fire there will be less gas to combust in the event of an accident

Sir tou used 4 electrodes, and boost converter too,can you run it for long time or i think it will hot your hho generator in one hour ,
@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 3 місяці тому
@farrukhawana.r.a.q9194 At that current it can run for long and the hho cell wont get hot, only the batteries dont last long before needing to recharge, but if you use a 12v power supply instead of batteries, it could run it for ages. The four electrodes are just to maximise the area, its like having 2 long electrodes but then cutting them in half and connecting it with wire. The boost converter was just used to control the current if you had powerful batteries or a power supply the boost converter wouldn't be needed, it was just so the batteries didn't over heat because the cell wanted more than 8 amps of current, but the batteries could only handle 8amps. Now i had 18650 cells that can handle 20amps continuous :)

This seems like it'd make an awesome metal forge/melter, that you can run on renewable energy, doesn't take a ludicrous amount of amperage on your home circuits, and gets wicked hot while leaving no harmful pollutants. I always figured that since getting rid of my gas forge a long time ago I had wanted something that could be more "green" since I have hated fossil fuel since well before Greta Thunberg ... The only thing I'd wonder about is how can you can separate the O2 and H2 properly so that your storage tank is not quite so much of a huge bomb (i.e. have 2 separate tanks, that then mix in the burner assembly on the forge)?
@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 2 місяці тому
As far as my imagination goes there are two main ways I can think of this being possible. One would be to make a really powerful on demand cell, so you wouldn't need to store any gas. This would probably be the safest, but you would definitely need to build a dry cell as they are more efficient and produce more gas. The other way would be like you mentioned to store it, if you build some sort of compressor and compressed it into a proper gas cylinder (e.g. like an oxygen or acetylene tank) either separately or together, but together would be easier as its difficult to make a dry hydrogen cell that separates the gas. Either way the oxygen to hydrogen ratio is perfect in hho so that shouldn't be an issue. I guess that storing it this way would be safe too with the correct fittings and fail safes , e.g. proper one way flow valves and appropriate nozzles.
@WackyInventions
@WackyInventions 2 місяці тому
But its definitely a very interesting topic, I haven't thought of a use for HHO like that 😁
@Sniperboy5551
@Sniperboy5551 2 місяці тому
@WackyInventions Storing it that way would be safe unless you had a house fire, then it turns into the B-word. Separating the two would be pretty damn difficult though.

I was thinking could you use Peltier Modules and use the heat from the flame to generate a voltage and use that to charge the batteries to make a closed loop. I have been going over this in my head an its well possible. Obviously you would need a bank of Peltier modules over a burner of some kind.
@Eternalfrust
@Eternalfrust 2 місяці тому
I don't think it would work, the peltier are super inefficient and most of the energy would be lost.
@calyvinmanvoice
@calyvinmanvoice 12 днів тому
Don’t do this at home as others have said yes because of toxic heavy metal water contamination from electrodes, but also because it is very dangerous to have the hydrogen oxygen mixed, as you can see by the fire flashing through the line. it would be safer to have separate lines for the positive and negative electrodes, so the hydrogen can be collected in a low oxygen, non explosive state
