Actually, Edge is really good on a low-speced device. It works great on an Atom with 1-2 GB of RAM.. Chrome is brutal on something like that. It's not a bad browser. It just needs time. Eventually it will support more extensions.

Microsoft dumb as hell for keeping the blue E. They spent God only knows how much money on development for a new browser to just make the logo look like the old browser. IE is notoriously a terrible browser with its name dragged through the mud. Keeping the logo similar to IE for non-techies to recognize is somewhat understandable. However, non-techies arent gonna appreciate the browser to its fullest potential with new features nor recommend any browsers to friends. Anyone that recognizes that cursed blue E is only going to think of the infamous IE. Microsoft can't be surprised their new browser is being treated like the old one everyone hated when they made it look like the old one. They shot themself in the foot with a high caliber bullet

Remember when Microsoft got hit by lawsuits in the EU for not asking which browser the user wanted to use in windows? I wonder why Google aren't hit by the same lawsuits for not asking on android.

Ever since I have installed Windows 10, I haven't used Adobe reader. Edge gets the job done. Also it is faster than Adobe reader.

One of the more common oversights I see about Windows 10 adoption is the assumption that people have a choice in the matter. They don't. I love Linux and I'm stoked that Valve is working on Proton, but there's an extremely high chance that people will be running Windows at work and slowly more businesses will be adopting Windows 10 (no matter how much their IT departments may hate it). It's pretty typical that average people will look to use the same or similar environment at home that they use at work. They may not know a gigabyte from a megabyte but they know how to open Word and Excel and print things off and they know that their Google stuff works in Chrome and other sites work great in Firefox. They also know IE doesn't work for a lot of things and only older sites use it so it's easy to lump Edge in with IE because of how similar the logos look. They've heard the IT people complain about IE for so long now that they've finally listened after seeing that the IT people actually know what they're talking about in regards to Chrome and Firefox vs IE. Also keep in mind that to many people, the ONLY alternative to Windows is MacOS X on a Mac because Linux is "hard" (it's not, but that's for another day). However, gaming on a Mac is extremely limited (and likely won't ever get anywhere) and Macs are prohibitively expensive to many people. Basically their perception is to keep using Windows because "everything will work on it" and under that umbrella they've acknowledged that Microsoft isn't trust worthy for a browser anymore, but their browser of choice (typically Chrome or Firefox) will work on Windows. I agree that Microsoft "needs" Edge for the direction they're going for their own walled garden, but no matter how good Edge gets, I won't ever support it or endorse it to slow down (maybe even prevent) the Microsoft walled garden from becoming a reality.

The fact that edge not only supports but let's me open a web page beside a document on formats like epub means, now, that I wouldn't bother with third party apps and conversion software to mess up my reading experience! Edge is a wonderful platform with pathetic publicity

Fun fact edge, actually, (or at least in the tests I've done) seems to be able to run higher resolution youtube videos much easier then Chrome does (but feel free to test for yourself and tell what your results are).

When I recently bought a laptop, it was such a good experience that I also made it my default app on my android phone. All my data is synced and when you shift from Chrome to Edge all your extensions are differed as well.

This hasn't aged well. Now Edge is one of the most respected browsers going. Different name, same product.

What are the security implications of these Progressive Web Apps compared to Android apps? Browsers have so many problem when it comes to privacy, I'm not so sure it's a good idea to have everything in browser.

I'm actually using edge, as a power user. One thing that annoys me about firefox is that edge starts way faster (it's just my experience, it may vary for other people, idk.). I also really like the fact that you can save tabs for later.

By now there are almost no major browsers that I could claim to be bad, it's not 2010, when people only had Firefox and Opera as their choices and Chrome was literally a handicapped toddler of a browser. They are all decent and usable. I use Edge as a substitute browser for special occasions, my daily browser is Opera

The biggest issue Edge has had, is continuing with that icon. The rendering engine itself is fantastic. The UI isn't to my taste though.

Used to use Chrome. Then moved to Firefox as Chrome got too slow. Now moved to Edge as Firefox also got too slow. I have had no issues with Edge. Everything works as it should. I find the performance to be so much better than Chrome & Firefox.

Tbh it's so much more power efficient rather than Chrome, the extensions suck so much power. Edge in that way is a very good substitute.

I like the speed of Edge and also the fact that it looks so clean. I don't mind the limited number of extensions since I'm not a heavy user of extensions. A good ad blocker is enough for me. That said It is a bit unpredictable though like sometimes it doesn't work too well with UKposts. Sometimes videos are late to play and when they do the audio and video are a bit out of sync. Not sure if this is MSFT's fault or Google's deliberate attempt to force people to use Chrome. So right now my main browser is Firefox especially with the recent Quantum update. I heard Opera has a major update coming and will be trying that one as well.

Well, the problem with extensions, not only on Edge, but every browser, is not how many exist, but how many of them work properly and have several options. For now, Edge can be used not only to get another browser, but as a separate mean for bank transactions, dedicated to it if u will, under the prerequisite that u do not use it for general browsing in order to keep it clean always for this purpose.

One thing I absolutely love about edge is the built in text to speech reader that for the most part works very well. However there are still problems such as websites not recognizing edge. Saving favorites is klutzy, requiring me to use an external app to do what is native to any other browser.

I think Microsoft lost a lot of support back in the day with their shady policy of pushing the IE and the fact that the IE 6, which came with Windows XP, was a major security risk for your computer. Surfing the web with IE6 was like swimming through a swamp in Africa naked: You were bound to catch something. Firefox capitalized on their failure and later Chrome and Safari come along, as well as others like Opera. Convincing consumers to come back to a product which scared them off is pretty difficult. Windows is still the most common OS, but the days where the IE was the only option are over.

Hey, Tech Altar. It is not "3 percent drop" for Internet Explorer, but "3 percentage points drop" for internet explorer. If it was 3% drop it would go from 10.49% to 10.18%...

Really great video. love your style too Chrome in my experience has been abysmal on a windows 10 tablet in terms of touch. This has made it easy to use edge , which is buttery smooth on any windows tablet I have used it on. Now the install chrome prompt just pisses me off .

Edge, and most of the current browsers, are horribly designed for first time users with little computer experience. Disappearing and reappearing UI, iconography that literally has no meaning, the removal of menus for ascetics sake, and so on.

For me, it's like that: I'm used to chrome (and was since before they released edge), so I use chrome.

The read aloud feature and in page search using Cortana is awesome! Plus navigation is faster than Chrome.

I don't hate edge. I just don't use it because all my shit's on chrome, folders inside folders on top of folders of bookmarks and passwords and themes. you'd have to make a pretty stellar browser to get me to switch however I still hope microsoft can get it to do well, chrome getting a monopoly on browsers is definitely not good for anyone in terms of features and future updates.

Using exclusively Firefox here. The primary reason being some grey-area add-ons that enable/disable various features on many sites.

I love edge, use it for 80% of the time on my pc, 100% on my android phone. Edge uses least processing resources of the three browsers, scrolling, touch, pen support are smoothest in edge. Many non Google websites such as Amazon prime, daily motion opens better on edge. It has some very useful features such setting tabs aside, tabs preview.

I remember that in my computer programming class the first ten minutes were completely taken up by people logging in and immediately beginning the chrome installation.

I've been fine with Edge nearly full time for almost a year now. I started dropping other browsers for various reasons and just had a "fuck it" moment and started using edge. With AdGuard and Tampermonkey, I'm able to do nearly everything I wanted with it, and Microsoft will literally pay you to use Edge as an added bonus. I still have Vivaldi for unsupported sites, and browsing imageboards, because Webm support is still patchy with Edge.

Great video. I was a late Edge adopter because there was no way to automatically clear history on close, couldn't find where to manage authentication certificates, and other advanced settings that were so easy to find in IE's Internet Properties window. It's gotten better, but deliberately discouraging people from managing privacy at first was a huge suspicious mistake. That's what I hate the most about Chrome, and like the most about Firefox.

From those few percents of Edge and I users, most of them are companies. I work in tech support, and most of the time the people who use IE/Edge are either 60+ people who remembered to click the "e" picture to check the grandkids on the facebook, or companies who use edge/IE because supposedly Microsoft guarantees that it will not infect and brutalize their systems while Chrome and Firefox, being free and assuring nothing, might. They then enforce its use in the whole company, and you get a ton of people using it.

I've been using Edge since it came out. I like the Windows 10 tiles, and I like being able to save websites as tiles for fast access.

I want use Edge but all the autoforms, passwords and predictions of Google Chrome doesn't let me.

I actually don't use Adobe Acrobat to open PDFs, in fact I think I haven't installed them yet. I have always used Edge LOL.

Edge is becoming better and I'm looking forward to adapt it as my default browser if it increases its extension support.

In terms of browser UI, Legacy Microsoft Edge on Windows was the best. There was almost no wobble when scrolling with my finger or a touchpad, and the browser felt like it was part of Windows. The only reason I stopped using Edge was because I had some problems. I unfortunately don't remember those problems. In fact, some things that didn't work on Edge actually worked on Internet Explorer, so I ended up using both browsers. It was really annoying.

Only browser I know of that streams Netflix in UHD (i have my 4K TV connected to my PC GPU and use Edge to view Netflix UHD or UKposts as well...Amazon Prime as virtually no UHD content).

Doesn't a small market share make it somewhat safer because people who are trying to find vulnerabilities won't be bothering with such a small pool of potential victims?

I started using Edge after it started supporting extensions which was a must have for me and am using it since. I had only minor hiccups while using it. I have Chrome installed though in cases Edge has some problem which is rare. People are too used to Chrome now to switch to Edge. I guess because it takes some time to get used to and the internet Memes doesn't help either in changing their opinions. Some of my friends haven't even tried it and they talk shit about it just because it related to IE and they think Chrome is better because they have blind faith on it by now and because Chrome has the highest user base now.

One thing not discussed is that corporate intranet portals still run on IE as a default (certificates and all that) so Edge by default is same as install-free Chrome. Once that changes Edge may do a wee bit better.

6 months ago I was Edge user. And to be honest - only the small details made me switch to Chrome again. After going fullscreen with YT movie the Edge window was always on top and I couldn't just alt+tab to see other app. Also developer tools in Chrome are quite better (but maybe it's just a habit). The biggest concern turned out to be lack of built-in Flash support that is needed by Deezer (i didn't want to install Flash just for this purpose)...

I use edge on my Samsung device.... It feels better than chrome.... I use Google as my default search engine on edge.... I use it for the dark theme and the continue on pc

I found when i open pdf or documents in edge it's work flawlessly but in case of chrome not work properly and low the resolution of pdf and edge do so fast and work very well
