You cannot just replace a new mid range driver, the crossover has to be recalibrated to take care of the characteristics of the new driver.

You could try engraving the letters deeper, filling with black paint (sand) and then lay the clear. Very nice little battery pack. End result looks good, i've always loved the layered plywood look.
