I understand what you mean by being in your element . There is nothing any better than being by yourself in the middle of no where just relaxing and enjoying the peace. This is the best medicine anyone can ever have. Great job glad i found your videos. Being that I am disabled and still go out into the woods I always go with someone. I am mobile enough but have some issues after extended lenghts sometimes. While I would prefer to be alone that is no longer an option but I still get out there! Bring it on!

I am far too old to be doing anything alone anymore. My children want me to get the security alert button in case I fall down and can't get back up, 😂. I was raised in the Jackson hole valley area and 50 years ago there was nothing better than taking off for the weekend and being alone in the element. 50 years ago we didn't have all the equipment that you kids have today mostly we had a couple of fish hooks, a good knife 🗡️ and a means to start fire. Beyond that anything that we used we made. When I was a kid and we told our parents we were going to the park we didn't mean the city park we meant Yellowstone. And they knew they wouldn't see us for a week or two. I am so blessed to have been raised in the wilderness. Thank you for these videos young man it brings a bit of nostalgia back to an old lady you're a blessing, keep on keeping on!

I have a bad habit of watching an approaching storm on day hikes on narrow ridges, then trying to beat it back to my car or tent. I keep making it just in time, and know of a few boulders on the way to crawl under if trees start coming down. But I should stop doing that.

I am usually alone with my dog. One has to be prepared to any weather while hiking. Sometimes it is very challenging like a few years ago in the mountains. It was blowing hard and raining at an angle and it was 6 C. It was getting dark and I was looking for a level site for the tent. There was two inch thick water flow everywhere running down the mountain slopes and it was extremely difficult to find a level spot. Finally I found one of a size of the tent. I dried the dog who was exhausted and wet and then we prepared for the night. Water was flowing around the tent all the time and the wind was hard, continuously. That was fun.

Wow, I actually had a really similar experience in Pisgah hiking with my dog in January years ago. Stupid trail crossed the river 11 times with no bridges so I forded it carrying my dog. The trail turned into a stream with a river on one side and hill on the other. Temps around 36F. Managed to find just enough space for my tent after going off trail 1000 feet up the hill. Was super fortunate I got my fire lit the first try. Faithful dog made my sleeping bag smelly but helped me stay warm

Wow! Great weather Luke ;) The art of enjoying nature, no matter how the weather is. I am a lone wolf for sure. I like to do things my way and be free to decide when, what, how I want to do things. I like loneliness, facing the unknown, overcoming my fears, because I have some, but I don't give it too much importance. I like the fact that I have to surpass myself every time. Having to rely only on my current knowledge and skills. For every time i'm in the woods, I see it as an additional experience which makes me even better each time and more confident. So yes, alone all the way!

Sure, some things are just plain easier with a group, like setting up a tarp in a t-storm, but I think the challenge makes the trip better. I'm a 55 year old widow, living alone and camping alone and loving it. And fear? No way! It's safer out there! Awesome video! It's storming all weekend and you got me all amped to go!

Many years ago I was with 3 other people on a wilderness camping trip - minimum 5 hours paddling a canoe after leaving our vehicles. It rained the entire way. Around 11pm we slogged up a wet portage and managed to set up 1, 2-3 person rated tent for the four of us, all soaking wet and exhausted from the constant rain, and ate granola bars for dinner. Every 6 hours for 4 days, gale force winds and thunderstorms pounded us. Anyway, on the first full day, we set up a proper campsite nearby but couldn't start a fire because everything was soaked. It was then that a half dozen extra tarps and a lot of line came in handy for a three sided kitchen tent with a partial flap for the camp stove. During the day, it was large enough to keep dry food stores inside it as well. We'd planned on fresh food for the first 3 days, but that stayed tied up from a high tree branch unless we needed it in case a bear wandered into the camp. Our camp was on a small peninsula with (except for the storms) a constant mild breeze keeping the insects away, and backed onto thick forest. Near the water, shallow Canadian Shield rock made a nice place to wash up, and just across a narrows in the lake was a perfect place to eventually get enough semi-dry wood for a real cooking campfire. Days 5-6-7 were nice and sunny and though it was challenging, we all made it back safely, though I did break a paddle on one portage. I'll never forget the trip in. Thick mist hung about 3 feet above the water in the rain, and we needed our headlamps to spot deadfall and other hazards.

This is the first video I’ve watched of yours that made me say “this man is crazy!” .... lol. Great video and kudos to you for being out in that weather, and especially for filming it. Couldn’t have been easy in any sense. Enjoyed this one very much, keep up the good work

I prefer camping and backpacking alone, or with just my dog, and usually do about 15 trips a year solo. Have spent about 20 days this summer in the Daniel Boone National Forest so far. One of my best memories was backpacking alone in pouring rain and dense fog at Red River Gorge, KY, and I honestly had no idea fog could actually get that dense. It wasn't risky, as it was a familiar and well marked trail but still felt like a true adventure. Once I was became comfortable setting up and tearing down a tent in heavy foggy rain at night, it was game on! One thing I've learned the wet way is to not use stakes when tarping in the rain, if possible, as they can start popping out at bad times.

I love it ! , Rain and a forest of leaf trees , not like the all pine dry forests in Colorado where fires are destroying entire forests in 2020. I wish I could do that hike in the rain or no rain in that forest type but I am too old now with health issues , though at least I can watch these nice videos. Thank you for sharing this video very nice.

Reminds me of camping days back in Zambabwe. Lightening struck a tree about thirty foot from my camp. The sap in the tree boiled instantly and blew off all the bark. Scared the crap out of me.

I enjoy learning from your experiences. But what I enjoy most is the forever present positive attitude you portray, no matter the situation or the weather conditions. Keep up the good work.

I'm a lone wolf. I really enjoy hiking and camping solo. Not that I don't enjoy getting out with others, but it's a different experience going solo. And rainy day hikes are the best because the foul weather scares all of the fair-weather types and keeps them off the trail (making for more solitude).

Luke, another welcomed vid for us to escape from the drudgery of the week. The vids always setup the mind and spirit for the weekend. As soon as I can get my balance back and walking again without face planting in the forest I'll be walking in the rain again myself. There is something refreshing about hiking in the rain or snow. Peace and health to you my friend.
