I travel with my job of 14 years, all over N.A., 100%, I am not afraid of covid. I do so enjoy your videos, let's me escape for a while in a hotel room for so many many days a year. I got the flu back in 1998, was bad for a few days, but I overcame it. With my God, my wife, and my family,... I can now overcome anything! Thanks...

I am in the south east of the UK so we were not allowed to meet anyone who doesn't live in our household over Christmas due to Covid. I just want to thank you for your videos that have kept me sane over the past 9 months. I am classed as highly vulnerable so have been virtually housebound and lost my father a few weeks ago in a foreign country where we are not allowed to travel due to the pandemic, but my escapes have been your videos,and for that I thank you. I really hope and pray that 2021 is a great deal more positive for everyone than 2020. Thank you again for all your hard work, to both you and Susie. Love from me in the UK.

There's a special kind of silence in snow-covered forests.
@ZebraFacts
@ZebraFacts 3 роки тому
I think it is special because you never consider outdoors can be so silent. There are always some sounds outside, but when it is really cold or the first heavy snow, most people will not be out and about. Especially if the area is at least somewhat remote. Even in a blizzard, it seems to be a sort of silence, even as the wind and blowing snow are quite heavy. Then I up and moved to Southern California. Nice weather, but nice can be very boring! I miss the snow. Yes, we do have snow at high elevations well into winter, but it is difficult to get, so there is also an expense. It can be so difficult that I have met many Californians that have never been to the snow.

In1969 I was rabbit hunting. It was getting late and I had walked a long way from home. I was walking across a snowy field and an ice storm hit. I backed into a corn Rick to wait it out. I was dressed very well and the dog was a young walker I was ruining by using it as a rabbit and squirrel dog. It soon fell asleep on my feet . I got warm and fell asleep. I awaken in a clear night with a full moon. The fresh ice just sparkled in the moon light and the shadows danced through them. I just sat quietly looking out of my shelter for a good hour before I walked through a fairy land back home.. I remember this as clear as if it was yesterday...

Wool Longjohns, Wool Pants, wool socks layered, wool shirt, wool sweater, wool long overcoat, wool liners in heavy leather mittens, Waxed or oiled leather boots, wool scarf, wool hat. Knew how to find dry seasoned wood in any environment, or how to use heavy sapwood to generate a hot fire to dry out the harder woods quickly. Just don't walk on thin Ice. Don't care about what is today's fashion, Enjoy Nature while doing your part to stay safe and warm, Nature really does its own thing while expecting you to take care of yourself while learning the lessons it can teach you, and from those that did not learn quick enough. Happy New Year and wear a freakin mask so the rest of us can get out to enjoy Nature as soon as possible. Too many of us have died learning one of nature's dark sides too give up now, or being fooled by others teaching poor survival skills. (Not speaking of Luke, I've enjoyed his channel for years) I just hope I one day can again share a cup of coffee around a campfire with anyone that comes by for a warm cup of joe and conversation without the worry of infectious disease I can spread to my Family. Peace.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT SCENERY on this one, Luke! You get 'props' from me for even attempting that fire and making it work! This outing looked like a time for some further testing of a fuel tab stove. Quick heat; quick meal...and done. However, the first glimpse of that rock led me to wish for an overnight with a quick brush shelter and a real fire! We did most of our winter hiking in New York State's Finger Lakes National Forest: not easy to find the trails under snow in the forested areas that didn't get used by snow mobilers or skiers. WE did not always do well following blazes and the National Park Service did not run to using colored metal discs to mark trails. We got 'confused' for a while a time or two...

When I used to live in the foothills of NC, at the end of every hear, either right before or right after Christmas, there would be an ice storm. Good to see the tradition is still strong 😉😂 I had Christmas alone due to pandemic lockdown rules here in Toronto. I had a very quick visit with my elderly Aunt and Uncle, and then had dinner over video chat with my sister and her fam and our other sister on the phone. It was a rather quiet but enjoyable day. New Year will be celebrated over at a friend's in her backyard with an outdoor heater and lots of blankets! 😷🍷 Happy new year!

The fire in this video is a perfect example of the paradox of fire. The more you may need it (in cold, ice, snow and low temps) the harder it is to get and maintain fire. Some sort of sure fire certainly has its place in harsh conditions.
