No PBS station, and no Travel Channel on the basic package I think the price may be worth it if they fixed that. But if they charge taxes it would be more expensive than UKposts TV is.

Thank you for making this video. We had the traditional DTV with a DVR , but the price never went down. Add to that the price of the ESPN sports package, it was to much. We cut the cord last year and haven't looked back.

Streaming only services should be at least 25% less than traditional pay TV since there is no equipment required besides a new smart TV or a cheap remote and dongle to connect to the play store on older smart TVs.

Our problem is the recording options (or lack of). You cannot extend the record time on a program. Also, the episode/series titles are terrible. For example, if you want to record a particular MLB game series, it records every single MLB game, not just the one you are wanting to watch. So, you must record each game individually. I am hoping Direct TV programmers will fix this problem since the former satellite system has been doing it for years.

Directv Stream has Dolby 5.1 and in my opinion, has the best picture quality of all of them. For me, the regional sports are the main reason I go with them.

True but not everyone can get the regional sports In their area. Direct TV stream is like much a hit and miss with sports and they don’t carry the NFL network or the redzone. Also they don’t carry your locals like If you live In Philly they don’t carry Cozi TV then that it’s ok. But to me direct tv stream is overpriced and not sports friendly. I would avoid direct stream tv if your into college football or like to watch the NFL.

@@fredreed2001 great points. definitely not great for NFL. But not everyone wants RedZone and NFL Network games air elsewhere. So it depends on the level of NFL fan.

I wonder just how long they will continue to carry the RSNs, since EVERY OTHER streaming service has dropped them when their contract was up for renegotiation. I don't know when they are due to renegotiate with Balley, but I can't help feeling that they are going to have to either raise their prices even more, or drop them like the other services have. I predicted that would happen on Hulu before THEY dropped them. I don't know what they charge, but it must be a lot.

Pricing needs to be as follows: 65+ = $60, 90+ = $70, 130+ = $80, 140+ = $100 The plans above would include a 1 TB or 1000 hour DVR standard with no expiration date. Keep in mind that UKposts TV is the same price as the cheapest package listed above but offers over 90 channels and a 9 month Unlimited DVR.

youtube TV goes up every year and has less channels a way smaller on demand and has less streams than directtv stream also it’s $10 extra a month for infinite dvr why are you trying to make it 1tb lol

I liked that they updated the user interface and still have the channel selection. However, the price tag is too much and they make it hard to cancel. You have to talk to an agent in a live chat in order to cancel. I cancelled it after three days and got the refund. It’s not worth having a streaming service if they make it hard for customers to cancel

I subscribe to Sling, but this was my second choice when cutting the cord if I had been unable to get a workable setup for local channels. Unfortunately, the price is so expensive that there wouldn't have been much if any savings over cable if I had gone this route.

I cut the cord and haven’t subscribed to any service. There is so much ad supported content out there. I use Peacock, Pluto, Tubi, IMBD TV, and Crackle. There is so much more than what I listed for free. The only thing I watched on live TV with satellite was the NHL and NASCAR. Just watching my nascar later now. NASCAR posts the races commercial free on UKposts on Tuesdays. I’m considering subscribing to ESPN+ during the NHL months October-March.

UKposts TV still kicks the crap out of Directv Stream from the standpoint you can have multiple user accounts, each with their own truly unlimited DVR. UKposts TV also doesn't seem to care of the users are in different households (different IP addresses), or even different zip codes. The UI on YTTV is pretty good with a Roku. Now, if Directv would add the ability to have multiple user accounts, each with their own DVR, I might consider changing, so we could get the RSN's. Hopefully Bally's pulls their head out of their ars and comes up with competitive pricing on their RSN's, so other streaming services can carry them.

Hi Mike, Ty for the video. Can you help me please. I just canceled Direct tv due to the price increase was to much. I went to spectrum and hate is because the user experience is leggy and not set up well at all. I like Direct Tv satellite because you could be watching live tv and a recorded tv and flip back and forth easily using the last chancel button. Spectrum will not allow you to use the last chancel button when switching from live tv to recorded. Every time I wanted to go back to my recording I had to go look for it press play fast forwarded to the place I left off. My quesiton to you is At&t Direct TV stream smart and work similar to the Direct TV satellite? Thank you

Right now we have direct tv and we like it. The reason I wanna get a roku device is to sync my hue gradient tv strip ligjts with my rwgular direct tv channels. Gradient strip ligjts work good with Netflix, amazin prime etc but I have to stream them through my phone so lights can work and match anything on tv. Hue gradient ligjts don't work with native tv apps unfortunally :( anyways is this a service that roku offers or will I be able to use my current direct tv channels with the roku device?

Major complaint is that you can not extend recording time. On cable TV recordings, you have an option to add time such as 15 minutes, or an hour, etc. When watching football games and races, any sporting event that goes past the regular scheduled time, the recording ends. Very frustrating. Will attempt to remember to record the shows that are after said sporting event.

You could, to be safe, set it to record the program after the game, whatever it is. If the game goes over, you're covered. If you don't need it, just delete it.

This is a pain. I did not realize this when I signed up. I wish it was a quick as clicking a button like any other streaming service. I hope they are not too stubborn on the phone when trying to cancel as I am planning on going back to UKpostsTV after baseball season.

I would have to get the Ultimate package to get ALL of the channels I want, and then $10.00 more for the DVR upgrade, which makes it way too expensive for me. With tax it would cost me almost $117.00, and the DVR only keeps your stuff for 90 days. If Philo can include an unlimited DVR and keep your recordings for 1 YEAR, this service, with it's high price should certainly be able to match it.

Philo is $25 a month and the reason it can get away with that low price is it doesn’t carry regional sports networks or premium cable bundles. If DirecTV did the same thing, it would be affordable at $40 to $50 month, in line with what its competitors charge. As long as they’re a cable style streaming service, they’re going to be expensive. You can’t have it both ways. Either you live with a a select number of channels to keep the cost down or you cough up the cash to get everything you want. If its the latter, you’re no longer cord-cutting.

@@NormanF62 I never refer to myself as a cord cutter, or to ANY of these MAJOR streaming services as cord cutting services. I prefer to call them cable replacement services. I'm willing to pay up to about $80.00 for a service like UKposts tv or Fubo tv, but that's about as high as I'm willing to go. DirecTv Stream is a good service, but it's still very much like a cable service in how it structures its packages. To be honest, if money was not an issue, I would still be with cable.

If your not willing to pay that kind of price then I think your screwed because cable prices are just as high If not higher. Your not going to find any streaming service lower then $65 except for Philo. Your out of luck.

@@fredreed2001 I usually have UKposts tv which costs me $72.37 (with tax). The point I was trying to make is that I feel DirecTv Stream should have a better DVR. Specifically, when you pay the $10.00 for the upgraded DVR, it should keep your recordings for more than 90 days. I'm just not going to pay that higher price for what, IMO is the worst DVR of any service except Vidgo, which doesn't even have one. UKposts tv's unlimited DVR is 9 months and Philo's, which is also unlimited, keeps your recordings for 1 year. I understand that at $64.99 UKposts tv is priced in line with many cable services lowest tier packages, but I get almost everything I want, and when I add Discovery Plus for $4.99 I still pay much less than I would have to pay for the DirecTv Stream package that I would need. Like I said, if money didn't matter, I would still be with cable, but I was paying $204.00 in order to get all of the channels I wanted, so UKposts tv is a substantial savings when compared to both cable and DirecTv Stream. :-)

Basically if you need regional sports networks mainly MLB fans then this is the cheapest and only streaming plan currently for you. But like he says once season is over you can cancel it and go with a cheaper option for offseason

There is a Play Live TV on Launch setting from the desktop view, but no option to turn it off. So I don't think you can change it at this point.

i asked rhis myself. since the down button brings up the main menu, and the left and right buttons switches the “channels”, it would make sense for the up button to bring you straight to the Guide

another way to emulate premium cable are sideloading apps that permit automatic launching any streaming service. Selecting Directv Stream when a firetv stick powered by the USB port on the back of the TV will launch a fire stick directly into Directv Stream on each cold boot up of a firestick. This does not work with the Amazon Fire TV smart tv.

I would start by online chat. Call if you have to. Just know they give the best offers to new customers. So make sure go verify the price and features. You may not get exactly what a new customer who signs up online will get if you choose to make the switch over the phone.

As a truck driver will this work for me? UKposts TV requires you to pretty much be in 1 main home area or zip code and at least check in something like 2 times a month. Any thoughts for me? I’d prefer to stream and not have a satellite dish on my truck.

I’m curious about the DVR. Will it allow you to extend a program scheduled to record by 15, 30 or 60 minutes or more? I’m so tired of watching 2 1/2 or more hours of a sporting event only to find the last three minutes not recorded.

Good question. The only way I know with this app is to record the next show. I'll test it out on a sporting event this weekend, but I'm pretty sure that's how it is. Not great.

@@MichaelSaves Thanks, I will check it out. I have done a lot of research and for me personally, there is no perfect solution to get what I want and am used to with the old Directv Satellite. There is always at least 1 or 2 channels that I regularly watch that are missing from various services. It's amazing that there is such discrepancy.

I have DIRECTV Stream and dealing with ATT WAS A NIGHTMARE. We have talked to at least 10 people at ATT to try to understand the change over from the conventional service. Everybody tells you something different and even after we sorted it out and agreed to a specific plan, we get bills that are anything up to $100 OVERCHARGED. Then you must return the old set top boxes, that is handled by ups. UPS were great but they warned us hold onto the receipt that UPS gives you. They say that almost everyone will receive charges saying you HAVE NOT RETURNED THE EQUIPMENT. UPS say that ATT WILL TRY ANYTHING TO CHARGE YOU FOR THE EQUIPMENT YOUR ONLY PROOF IS THE UPS RECEIPT. As soon as I can change from ATT I WILL. Everyone I speak to has a similar story they say that dealing with ATT IS A NIGHTMARE. Even UPS says they just hate to deal with ATT.

This is ABSOLUTELY true. They charged me when I sent my equipment back, saying that they didn’t receive it. I had to show my UPS receipt. So that is a must if you ever send equipment back through a delivery service. I also remove my banking info when I switch from one carrier to another so that they won’t be able to charge my account automatically. They’ll have to send a bill. Much easier to have them charge off a bill than to get your money back after they’ve charged your card for the equipment they claim you never sent back. 😏

They use to have reasonable prices when they first came out as directv now. I canceled them last week. Prices are just as much as cable.

That's because live TV cost the same for the cable company and any company that is offering streaming. They all have equipment to maintain, they have to pay fees to the networks, and they got to pay employees. It comes down if one wants to live TV service bad enough or not.. I think what we're finding is that there are a lot of people that don't really value live cable like channels like they used to and they can't see paying $50, $60 $70 a month or more. There are plenty of free options, though they're not going to have the most current shows. It's just funny how everybody's looking for something for nothing for all of these streaming options when in reality they don't operate for free..

I’m thinking about getting direct. There’s a obvious price difference but it’s not really Competing with the others because they have all channels just about that people watch local news and sports. The difference in Hulu and UKposts tv is favorite channels that are between the two . I hated to choose and I unsubscribed from both I might try direct

Will the dtv $5/mo box allow me to stream on a non-smart tv? I think the box hooks up to a tv via hdmi cable. My non-smart tv has an hdmi port. So would this work for DirecTV stream?

$30 a month more for a DVR that's not as good as UKposts TV's and no NFL Network / Red Zone channel is just not worth it. I hate that YTTV doesn't offer MSG and the Yes Network here but there's still enough holes in the Directv Stream channel lineup as well (no WPIX, no PBS, Fox Sports 2, Golf Channel & CBS Sports Network only available in the most expensive packages) to make this an easy pass for me now.

This isn’t a promotional price. However, costs go up eventually. No provider is impervious to increase of cost. How soon we forget how cheap Netflix was albeit still cheap but it has definitely increased in price. This is how it is, things will always keep moving in price.

Yes, local NFL games are primarily on FOX and CBS (depending on your team).

Can you create profiles and does each have its own DVR so I don't have to see what everyone else recorded? If I am watching a show and browse the guide, in UKposts TV, it will take you to that channel if want to see the info on the guide. Bad feature on UKposts TV. Does this guide do the same thing?

I didn't see an individual profile option. Not exactly sure about your last question. I did demonstrate the live guide in my video, so I hope you can look at that and see the functionality.

@@MichaelSaves But you didn't show anything other than scrolling up and down the guide. if you are on a channel and want to view the information on another channel does it keep you on the current channel or take you to the new channel when you go to info? Spending more time using the guide would be a helpful feature. I think that is what most people struggle with when moving from Directv satellite, Spectrum, Cox, etc. Thanks!

@@kb4 when you’re watching a show and want to get to the guide, click down. The main navigation appears. Then you’ll go to the guide as I showed. The channel will not change until you click through. The channel you’re on continues for play in the background until you click a channel of exit the guide and go back to watching.

It has no contract that is true. however, you forgot to mention that the streaming box for $5 monthly is for a 24 month payment plan so if u cancel early you will need to pay d remaining balance of the streaming box which is $120. FYI

I didn't test the DIRECTV STREAM device, so I can't say. You could rent it from them to try it out if that feature is important to your family.

I have the streaming box, and yes you have channel numbers and can go directly to channels just like the old days with cable.

@@Nostalgicvaporwave I have not seen the channel numbers show up on any of the other streaming devices. I think it might be something specific to the DIRECTV streaming box. The channel numbers actually show up in the channel guide next to the station name.

My only REAL issue is with their DVR. The basic DVR should give at least 50 hours of recordings, and retain them for as long as you subscribe, and the "UNLIMITED" DVR should give 1 year of retention. Even Philo's unlimited DVR stores your recordings for a full year.

@@spaceghost4474 They must have changed things. The unlimited DVR expires after 9 months. Series recordings still max at 30 episodes, but who needs to save more than 30? 😏

@@spaceghost4474 I just got DirecTv streaming. Tired of paying $208/mo for Comcast. That’s for the lowest cable package and one of the lowest internet plans and a home phone that I never use. Then tack on these ridiculous fees (almost $40/month for Broadcast Fee and Sports Fee. I’m not even a sports fan so why am I forced to pay this??). Enough!!! So I’m trying to watch all of my recordings on Comcast and setup the streaming over the weekend. Hope I like it.

Does anyone live in an area where you have a choice of which provider to use for internet and TV? In north Texas at least, one company has a monopoly in your town or subdivision and you have to go with them, unless you want an ugly dish antenna on your house.

DVR does not automatically extend time for sporting events that go over the scheduled time on the guide. I missed the last 5 minutes of the football game today. UKposts TV DVR automatically extends if sporting events go over. Disappointing.

Why didn’t you compare this to satellite dtv? That seems like the logical comparison. Given what you showed I’ll stick with satellite. But there are several things I don’t like that I was hoping you would shed light on in the streaming version that might have swayed me.

Is anyone having problems with the home network? I have three TVs and I should be able to watch in all three at the same time but I can’t. For some reason the home network keeps getting disconnected and I get a message on the third tv that too many streams are playing at the same time. I don’t know how that happened because I already reset the home network 3 times and if I do it a fourth time I won’t be able to reset it again for 10 months if it gets disconnected again. I don’t know how one tv got an IP address different from the other two. Any suggestions besides trying to get help from their customer service department, which is impossible to get a hold of?

@@nymost Hmm not sure. The streaming version of DIRECTV (DIRECTV STREAM) the DVR is in the cloud. Anyone who signs up gets it. Sign up online though for unlimited DVR.
