My parents were married in January, so their wedding shower was Christmas-themed. And since my grandmother was an interior decorator and had bunch of artistic friends, EVERYONE brought the most incredible handmade ornaments. Every time I try to decorate my own tree as an adult, I miss the experience of Mom pulling out, say, clothes-pin Wise Men and saying "oh, Mrs. Jones made these! she knew me when I was a baby and I used to play with her kids after school!" or something. It's all gorgeous and meaningful; store-bought ornaments just don't measure up!

My neighbor “helps” Santa every year by being Santa at the mall (if you catch my meaning). He’s a round older guy with a long white beard. He even has round rimless glasses. We told my kid and his cousins when they were little that Santa and Mrs Claus had a summer vacation house in our neighborhood and that’s why Santa was there. They thought it was the _coolest_ thing ever! They told all their friends at school that they’d met Santa’s two little dogs and that Mrs Claus has a cat that’s always on the Naughty List. Every time they saw him walking his dogs, they’d run over to hug him and ask if they’ve been good so far this year. My kid is 14, but Santa still tells him he’s on the Nice List when he sees him.

12:29 Yes, abusive parents sometimes don’t give presents to punish kids at Christmas. It happens often. Other abusive parents give presents and then take them away later. My husband said his parents would yell at him for not being excited enough or thankful enough for his Christmas presents but he wasn’t that excited because he knew they would all be taken away a week or two later and he wouldn’t get to keep them. 😢

I know this actually! Whoville was featured on not only the Grinch, but on Horton hears a who! The "Spec" is a tiny dust spec that Horton the elephant can hear people on because he's an elephant and has really good hearing! Since he's the only one who can hear the Whos on the spec, he carries the dandelion to a safe location to live out their existence! It's also shown in the film at least, that when the spec is too cold, they will get snow and such, and are affected by the outside world! So it was changed to a snowflake in that movie it seems!

I remember I was about 3 or 4 years old in daycare and these two twin girls would go underneath the table and bite my legs. I told the teacher and all she said was to bite them back. I was too shy and scared to do that so they just kept biting and bullying me. One of the twins even threw my HitClips toy down the toilet and I still have not forgiven/forgot about it.

Have you ever not seen the polar express?! It came out in 2003 starting Tom Hanks?! It’s a great Christmas Movie!!! I don’t think they can dance around with it live preformance with risk at burns but in the animated movie scence they do!! I’m sure they got hot cocoa after the song on one of the many train rides modeled after the Polar Express!

I love the Polar Express. The local steam train here does a ride based on the movie every year and its a yearly tradition for me and my mum.

I loved the guy in the first video. My husband is like that - he has no concept or understanding of browsing. Edit: My parents canceled my Christmas and returned/ gave away my presents when I was 7 because I lit a match over the toilet (I at least knew to do it over water) and dropped it in. Apparently, it failed to flush and, when questioned, I blamed the neighbor who smoked and said maybe he flushed it down his toilet and it came up the pipe into ours.

Thanks Sam for the boost up, holidays, especially Christmas is hard for my family and I, we lost my mom the day after Christmas unexpectedly back in 2016. The grief has been hard this year but we are trying to stay positive for my daughter because we want to keep attempting to keep the same magic of Christmas my mom did every year. I am a kid of the 70's and my mom getting a picture of me with Santa was a big deal (I am her first born and the first grandchild) and she has a picture of me that is so sad. My parents had taken me to go and see Santa and I was not having it at all from what she tells me. His elves suggested maybe walking around with me and then sneak up on Santa and sit me down. In my defense I was only 1 & 1/2 and it was the last Christmas before I had the first of three brothers. The look on my face is so so sad, bright red eyes from crying and the most pronounced lower lip. Even with me being 51 now my mom still looks at the picture and gets a little misty eyed.

I don't remember that from the Grinch but the Who's live in Whoville which is a speck on a clover in Horton Hears a Who and Seussical: The Musical so now I'm confused about where they actually live...

Re: did you ever get presents taken away for bad behavior I didn’t but my wife’s parents would give her gifts away to her friends when she was bad. Now that we have kids of our own we will under no circumstances threaten our kids with taking away gifts or anything holiday related because of behavior.

We got Christmas presents every year but one year when my youngest older sister and I were still in elementary school and my oldest sister was in middle school, and my brother was in high school our dad pranked us by telling we got coal for Christmas and my mom and brother went along with it and said that yeah we got coal, my older sisters and I immediately burst into tears thinking we weren’t getting any presents (after they explained to us (not oldest sister) what coal was bc we thought we could play with it, and well we did get coal, chocolate coal.😂
