The Winter Soldier is regarded as one of the best of the MCU. That one critic from that one time who said it was bad is wrong. (I'm not sure he exists...) Here's everything right with Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. Next week non-stop action.

The connection about Bucky not wearing his mask to mess with Cap, and him wearing his old suit to jog Bucky's memory was mindblowing.
@tiawilliams5690
@tiawilliams5690 7 років тому
I'm not completely sure about that. Presumably Bucky wore the mask in the beginning to keep Cap and SHIELD from recognizing him and possibly trying to deprogram him. I just assumed that they didn't have him wear it at the end because he didn't need to anymore.
@deidryt9944
@deidryt9944 7 років тому
I also felt like Cap only got his old uniform because it was the only one he had access to. His new one was at SHIELD HQ, which he couldn't exactly go back to.
@garethmateer2457

+Deidryt In the film the reason he stopped wearing the Stealth Cap Suit was because it was being geo-tracked by SHIELD/Hydra, this he resorted to the Smithsonian Suit as it was the only one he had access to
@swanpride

No really, he just says that he needs a suit to go into battle, but he never clarifies why...but wearing a suit naturally helps to underline his authority as well as jogging Bucky's memory.

Exactly, cause these two are not in fact the same person. They are in some way a part of eachother, brainwashed and broken and twisted into eachother, but still two DISTINCT persons and I LOVED Stan's performance in this movie in particular. Ok, but the connection with cap putting on the old suit to remind Bucky of who he is gets sadder after you realize Bucky didn't actually care until cap had dropped the shield, taken off his helmet, and repeated a phrase from before he was "captain America." Because Bucky only ever saw Steve as Steve. His Steve. His proud, impulsive, idiotic Steve who he's protected their whole lives. I cry.

@rbrtck 5 років тому
+Rebecca Sikes I don't think that was the reason Steve put on his old suit at all. I mean, why would it be when it is so obvious that Bucky would more likely recognize his best friend's face? There were two actual, unrelated reasons for it. One is that in order to be Captain America for us, the audience, he needed a Captain America suit, and he had to ditch his modern suit earlier because it could be tracked; now, the scene telling us this was cut, but in any case clearly he had ditched his modern suit for some reason and needed another one. The other reason is symbolic--Steve was sort of returning to his roots and what he was fighting for before all of this SHIELD-infiltrated-by-Hydra crap, namely freedom and truth, and wearing his old suit represents this. Neither reason had anything to do with Bucky, who knew Steve Rogers and loved him as a brother long before Captain America came about.

Actually, I was disappointed in this movie and the fight scenes for this exact reason. Stan DID IN FACT train for the fight scenes and we SAW him and we KNEW he was capable of doing them, and yet in the movie, the knife parts is NOT him, and that sucks. Mariokemon The guy from cinemasins has another channel where he makes real reviews of movies after watching them and many of the "critiques" he makes there can be found in his "EWW" videos. Basically they are mixing "jokes" with real criticism and it's so poorly done that no one can really tell the difference. Those videos aren't pure comedy, there is real criticism in each of them. The creators are just cowards that use the "immunity" granted by comedy to not be called out on their bullshit. Overall their videos are pointless. There is nothing funny about getting everything wrong about a movie, it's actually annoying. But they say they don't care, because they want to sound edgy and so do all their mindless followers who scream on top of their lungs "it's just for fun, bro" every time someone tries to correct them.

When you actually step back and look at it, the MCU is based on three trilogies. Thor, Cap and Iron Man. And the Captain America trilogy is just SO amazing and seems to be the primary vessel in which the story moves forward. Iron Man is reactionary and passive, doesn't push the WORLD forward as much. Thor provides the much-needed connection to the cosmic universe but again, barely moves the plot forward. Ragnarok a little more so but still, Cap trilogy is where SHIELD lives and dies, it's why the Avengers even exist in the first place, and it gives Black Widow and Nick Fury a lot of necessary screen time to justify their Avenger status.

Fun little fact: the term "Winter Soldier" is a very old saying meaning a man who fights in war not only during summertime (when it's warm and easy to travel to countryside) but during the colder, less forgiving months of the year. Basically a Winter Soldier fights year round and is always ready to defend his country and loved ones. So the title of this movie, as the directors explain in the film's commentary, also applies to Captain America, who doesn't just fight when it's convenient.
@JaelinBezel
@JaelinBezel 6 років тому
I read it was a reference to "The Winter Soldier Investigations" when the military was investigating war crimes committed by US soldiers in Vietnam, itself a reference to the term "Summer Soldier" which was used to mock anyone that only fought for their country when it was convenient for them.

Nat got excellent character development, the scene with her releasing SHIELD's information to the public was amazing, and we're shown that she's not a heartless cold spy with no personality. Her hand-to-hand combat scenes are just wonderful and she's so badass here, I hope her new movie does her justice.

My take on why we see Zola in Bucky’s flashback: he was put on ice after he fell of the train and was unconcious while they perfected his metal arm. My past self would've agreed with you, but now I believe CACW is the best MCU movie (in my opinion, at least). Captain America is just an overall badass with his movies

I literally had goosebumps during the scene where Cap lifts Thor's hammer and later when he says Avengers Assemble. I bow down to Chris Evans for perfectly personifying the character of Captain America. You will be missed. RDJ you too :). Captain America being worthy was truly the best thing in the ENDGAME. Thank you, Chris Evans, RDJ, Russo brothers and other characters for providing us an experience that we will never forget. #chrisevans #captainamerica #TeamCap forever #Thankyouavengers

I think something you missed is in the elevator scene. The strike team that was actually able to open the elevator door just as Cap jumps out the window. Nice little detail to me since opening an elevator door isn’t that hard and Cap is decisive and quick.

This is probably my favorite mcu movie. The action was great, it was emotional, and even when you know what's about to happen you're still on the edge of your seat.

7:54 omg I didn't notice at first the whole shackles/restraint stuff they got around Cap's arms and legs! Of course they're gonna need something more heavy duty than a flimsy pair of handcuffs.

Best comic book film ever made: the story, the action, the cinematography, had a villain who's motivation was believable plus controlling a powerful character, not to mention this film saw the dismantling of SHIELD and had the second best post credits scene after The Avengers

imo, it's amazing, but it comes at a close second to the dark knight trilogy.

Yeah if comparing against the entire trilogy lol. As a film, The Dark Knight could be better. I haven't watched it in a while tho

+SteelRazorBlade // AdamSRB ehh I love TDK, it's one of my fav movies,but you take away Ledgers performance as the joker,and you got just a good movie, nothing jaw dropping, as an all around movie,I like the Winter soldier better,but still would rather watch TDK, kinda confusing I know but idk how else to put it

I actually like The Winter Soldier more than Civil War, largely because of the espionage theme. Right up there in my top 3 fav MCU movies.

After Endgame, the scene between Steve and Peggy breaks your heart in a whole new way. My head canon is that Steve was always her husband, just his identity was kept secret so he could live a normal life, so, "You came back," is her thinking she'd seeing him for the first time after he went back in time. Regardless, I love that Steve loves Peggy even though she's nearing the end of her life, the way Peggy initially fell in love with Steve when he was just a scrawny kid from Brookyln.
