We think humans have created huge amounts of information. But in fact, it's a tiny amount compared to the information needed to describe the universe. Using beautiful slow-motion footage of a water droplet, presenter Jim Al-Khalili gives us a sense of just how much of what goes on in the physical world is hidden from us.

34:57 “[Alan] Turing’s brilliant mind saw that any calculation had two aspects: the data and the instructions for what to do with the data.” It’s actually fascinating that it took until the mid-1950s for someone to come up with that abstract idea since Joseph Marie Jacquard’s punch cards, demonstrated in 1801-so, exactly a century and a half earlier-worked on essentially the same principle.

I've not read all of the comments of course. But, when thinking of Maxwell's demon, there is an obvious expenditure of energy to me. He opens a portal to allow the atom to cross. He has to expend some energy in some sort of way to open and close the portal. Probably much more than the atom uses to glide through the opening. I know it's just a thought experiment. But the conversations about such things is what makes it so great.

Words ate the applied intelligence begotten by speech, not "language."The Greeks, having slaves could early prove that the notion of intelligence must give way to the essence of science, communication. Do not confuse technique with science. Power and language, will not trump true loyalty to the future of our spaceship; only the comprehensive use of technique will transcend the 0 sum degeneracy of nation states which will persist, a good thing as regards the diversity of cultures. Information from data is a question. Science, the greatest institution to emerge, cannot conflate information with knowledge and as learning increases exponentially for the masses, speech will trump language, science will trump technique, win- win will es ill not @@bitwarper -ZZZZ8 ---

All of this is, to a great extent, already contained in the theory of hylomorphism. Over 2,000 years ago, Aristotle said that all that there is in the universe is a compound of matter (hyle) and form (morphe). Matter is *informed* and that’s the only way it actually is real. Reality is hylomorphic. And as a bonus, another way to name form is by a Greek word that will be familiar to you: energeia.

@@thecrichters8680 THE CLEAR AND UNIVERSAL MATHEMATICAL PROOF THAT E=MC2 IS F=MA: Gravity IS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy, AS E=MC2 IS F=MA. The Earth (A PLANET) is a MIDDLE DISTANCE form that is in BALANCED relation to the Sun AND the speed of light (c), AS the stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky; AS E=mc2 IS F=ma. ACCORDINGLY, gravity AND ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy are linked AND BALANCED opposites; AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. E=mc2 IS F=ma. This NECESSARILY represents, INVOLVES, AND DESCRIBES what is possible/potential AND actual IN BALANCE. Very importantly, outer "space" involves full inertia; AND it is fully invisible AND black. SO, the Earth constitutes the FULL DISTANCE in/of SPACE in BALANCED and UNIVERSAL relation to what is the MIDDLE DISTANCE in/of SPACE; AS E=MC2 IS F=ma, AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY !!! INSTANTANEITY is thus FUNDAMENTAL to what is the FULL and proper UNDERSTANDING of physics/physical experience, AS E=mc2 IS F=ma; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. Alas, the INTEGRATED EXTENSIVENESS of THOUGHT (AND description) is improved in the truly superior mind. I have truly, CLEARLY, AND MATHEMATICALLY unified physics/physical experience. OVERLAY what is THE EYE in BALANCED RELATION to/WITH what is THE EARTH. (Notice the black space of THE EYE, AND the DOME of a person's eye is ALSO visible.) THE EARTH is ALSO blue. Again, E=mc2 IS F=ma. The stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. Time dilation proves that E=mc2 is DIRECTLY and fundamentally derived from F=ma, AS electromagnetism/ENERGY IS GRAVITY. in this paper Shannon did something absolutely incredible he took the vague and mysterious 44:17 concepts of information and managed to pin it down now he didn't do this using 44:23 some cleverly worded philosophical definition he actually found a way to measure the information contained in a 44:30 message amazingly Shannon realized that 44:37 the quantity of information in a message had nothing to do with its meaning instead he showed it was related solely 44:45 to how unusual the message was 44:51 information is related to unexpectedness so news is news because it's unexpected

That was excellent. I did a Computer Science degree in the 1990s and have written software for the decades since but this was has got me thinking about different ways of how information can be represented and the rather crude approximation with which we use computers right now to simulate and abstract from reality.

I also have delved into the question of finding order while often struggling in a midst of disorder. So, I tried to find some method of comparison when studying what are described as fractals, often visible described by how snowflakes infinitely different from each other. So I thought of reducing my thoughts to words..."The sheer periodicity of the random observable events, although from many perspectives appearing to hold ordered form are and forever will remain in a state of chaos.". This easily applies to the art painting style of 'dotism,' the current technological ability to map the location, path and physical structure of sub-atomic particles, and even the explainable and unexplainable aspects of a life long lived during subjectively defined periods of human progress.
