As a quiet, inoffensive person and a good listener, I’ve found out multiple times that the person I’ve been hanging out with is kind of an ass, and spent so much time around me because I was one of the only people left in their life willing to put up with their BS. They’d always treat me well (to my face anyway, as far as I know) but were sometimes just horrible to other people. It’s usually because of insecurity-rooted narcissism.

This reminds me of my “friend” who constantly said negative things about his friends like they were boring, nerdy, condescending, know-it-alls, judgmental, etc. He was good at projecting this as everyone else’s problem, and yet he was the only person I knew who didn’t like something about everyone. He acted as if he was too good for everything and he had low tolerance for talking about things he hated (which was a loong list, I always felt like I was walking through a minefield trying to avoid them). Hanging out with him was great as long as you kept it to things he liked and we had to cater to him constantly. He was the type of friend that pretended it was tough love and insisted he just “tells it like it is.” Zerik would go through these cycles of idealizing friends to devaluing them, at his worst actively hating some of his “friends” only to eventually swing back around. I was a fool for thinking I somehow wasn’t getting the same treatment. One day I hung out with a new friend of his (Andy) and realized Zerik was treating me like the Brian of this video. It was a surreal experience realizing he was trying to set me up to look like the asshole. This was just a few weeks ago and now that I’ve noticed the pattern I will never hang out with this “friend” again. I wasted so much time feeling like I had to keep him happy but life is too short to waste on negative and toxic people. Andy, I know you’ll never see this, but give it a few years, you’ll be getting the same treatment. Hell, you already are. You don’t deserve to have Zerik shit all over everything you like. You have good taste in music and the things you enjoy (dnd, board games, “nerd shit”, etc) are great and valid. I hope you find friends that lift you up and make you feel loved and appreciated 100% of the time, not conditionally. 💜

I hope this is more new-age sarcasm that I never seem to grasp because I hope your friends stop being friends with you, if you're coming to us-strangers on the internet- and calling them weird and cringe for seeking the very thing that is in our nature. I really like the shot compositions throughout this one :) The way the asshole friend in black, is well, wearing black first of all...but also 0:10 The character in black sitting at the larger black piano, bigger sound bigger personality, while Joel sits on the floor, sort of humbly, playing a dainty sounding piano. The contrast of presence of ego and character is given early on. 0:53 The friend in black standing in a pretty confident or cocky pose, directly at the pointing end of the banister of the stairs(lol). complete focal point + the black draws the eye to the "issue". 0:53 Also how in that same shot, Joel is in white, literally blending in with the background, as if to say he was flexible and easy going, thus further contrasting the characters. 1:06 The dude answers the door, and behind him a dead plant as he makes destructive gestures. 1:07 Joel standing next to a canvas print of a family setting. 1:15 The part with joel sort of just benignly obstructing the stairs. Narrowly framed as if to say, this is the only path available, and stairs in general maybe signifying a more advantageous path. Blocked by easy going, and sort of meek Joel with no expression, further showing his un-assertive character. Just a few of the things in this one I appreciated. Maybe intended, maybe not, I just thought they added to the scene either way :)
