3:40 - I believe you’ve cut the wrong “barrier” on the top lid. Supposed to be the one on the right hand side.

Notices the deliberate mistake of chopping for cable entry in the opposite side on the top and bottom around 3:40

I'd loop the conductors through the gel to the opposite sides of the box to ensure a good seal, and true prevention of capillary problems.

Interesting video though, water wicking through the wire is something I've never considered. Maybe I'll throw a silica gel pack in my outdoor sockets now?

It happens more than you would think - especially on some inground lights!

@@richardpowell181 Silica Gel has a very limited capacity to absorb moisture - it wouldn't take much water ingress to completely overwhelm it. For outdoor sockets cable entry should ideally be on the bottom, and the socket box itself should have a drain hole to let water out.

If this seals as well as it's supposed to (IP68/69), send a couple of JW and let him run a dozen amps through them while they're sat in a bucket of water. Personally I remain less than convinced that the gel will mate completely where the cable has been put through and gaps will still exist allowing water ingress even when assembled in ideal conditions (not up a ladder in the cold). At least when you're filling your own boxes you are completely covering the connections and can visually check for any voids before sealing on the lid. With these boxes you just have to put it together and pray.

I tend to use wiskabox with the mp gel, works out expensive for a one off job, ive tried other options but never found anything that looks as neat , i do like the look of the moat, nice neat and compact , do they suffer from condensation in the open compartment when sealed? i use NYY a lot, great for brick lights and the like, i just wish it was 7 stranded apposed to solid conductor

I can't find your video on NYY cable, does anyone have a link? I've just used this on my house for an outside sockets and lighting radial circuit. Found it relatively easy to work with, not as easy as flex, but way easier than SWA.

I think this is what suppliers are also calling TUF cable? Seems to be like a meter tail, double outer layer. CEF stock it as 2.5mm² 3 Core Tuf Sheathed Cable Black.

@@pirate69s think your referring to SY & YY cable.! NYY-J cable meets BS EN / IEC 60332-1-2 & IEC 60502-1 standards.

The next question is, when Efixx release the video, will any suppliers actually start stocking the damn stuff?! I rang 6 different local suppliers the other week looking for it and in the end I had to resort to CEF, and even they didn't have the 3 core in stock at my two local stores! I've seen all sorts of T&E, SY and armoured on walls before where NYY is the ideal solution.

You make no mention of drip loops. These are surely essential in all external wiring.

Yep, despite the gel I remain unconvinced by their inline vertical connection with the two way version. Yes it's lovely and neat but I'd be inclined to have it horizontally just above the light fitting with a drip loop on the incoming NYY cable.

The Fred is from Raytech, I sell these at Eyre & Elliston! As I have a customer that uses them for outdoor joints!! I can't say I've sold the Fox Box though, would guess its a Raytech product too though 🤔

Could of questions and thing's that I have noticed, so I am wondering if the gel that is been used is it mould resistant? Also if it's been used outside and when its mounted onto the wall is there a protective film over the gel to prevent any ingress of dirt and debris when drilling like dust which could compromise the gel's integrity. Secondly when I saw you putting into the conduit tube I saw some internal threads so could you screw the conduit in and when I saw you using a knife to cut the access channel for the cable what really concerned me is health and safety aspects. I think that from a DIYER and non electrican standpoint I think maybe pull off cut offs which can be snapped off be a good idea instead of having to use a knife which could be especially dangerous if not wearing gloves. Lastly I think they should release the same product but without the gel been pre fitted/filled so that you can put it in yourself.

British savety costs £. But if you buy it and use it five years do you pay dayly only a little bit. Do not forget, the british factory owner have many costs to produce and sell it. Then the high ad costs to pay for *efixx* for an 8:40 min video. They never talk about the price of one of the products ...
