There's some genuinely good character developement. The fact that in the other one the man she was falling for was kind of tired of her talking shows to me that as she's fallen in love with him she's stopped romanticizing things and is seeing the world more clearly. The fact that the evil husband is ridiculously monologuing while she's just done with his shit shows me maybe he preyed on her optimistic outlook. Truly harrowing.

@pizzapastaparty3095: The trouble, of course, is that we don't have a very rigorous method for distinguishing between doing something bad and just showing that one is done with the other's s**t. If we can't judge by conventional standards, that cheating is bad without context, then it seems that we can't judge by (presently) conventional standards that him being mean to the woman is bad without context. Simply pointing to the act itself won't do, as pointing to the act of cheating and referencing its conventional badness doesn't rule out the possibility that it's simply showing that one is done with the other's s**t. We would need some means _that doesn't involve pointing to the conventional badness of the act in question_ by which we could rule out that the man, by being mean to the woman, is simply showing that he's done with her s**t (with that presumably consisting in acts or behaviors on her part prior to him being mean).

Money and social reputation. It was more for benefits than it was for love back then. In some cases, usually upper class, they would only meet once or twice dueling chaperoned dates before the wedding. And if the _daughter_ was lucky enough, she may have even gotten to choice herself which rando she would blindly marry for continued wealth and reputation. Also the double standard that men could actively seek other female companions outside of the marriage but the woman couldn’t. Gotta love humans :)

We see this effortless product of perfect satire... but like, the guy clearly has bone-deep passion for the subject because he’s got videos like this down to the badly blurred close up and 1940’s trope melodrama... or like he nails 80’s cartoons and adventure comics.
