"Big time armchair admirals" doesn't do it justice when it comes to War Thunder; there have been multiple times in which nerds complaining about stats on various military vehicles actually leaked classified documents to support their own arguments about how you should buff a virtual tank

One of the things about Americans traveling is that our Country is huge and it can be vastly different for people to travel from Washington state to Florida. Yes its the same country but the culture and scenery is so wildly different. Having grown up in upstate NY and having lived in Wisconsin, Michigan and PA each state is so different and offers different holiday locals.

It isn’t the fact that GB is an island that makes its citizens indignant over expecting a foreign country be just like home Ireland is an island, culturally very similar to GB, and yet it’s citizens are fine respecting the differences in foreign countries. So much so that in places like Spain and France, people will be rude to English speaking tourists until they clarify that they’re actually Irish, after which they’ll be a lot nicer

As an American, I'd like to point out that Americans: 1) Drive EVERYWHERE. It's almost impossible to walk anywhere unless you live in a major city, and even then you take the train, or the tram, or whatever. NOTHING is within walking distance of your house here. 2) Rarely, if ever travel out of the US. It's far to expensive for most of us to leave the US, and airlines suck here, so we don't like using them. 3) Are far more diverse in terms of culture than usually given credit for. Not in the same way that Spanish culture varies from Egyptian culture, but "sections" if not states often have their own sub-cultures that are different from even the state next door. It sounds odd to most Europeans, or Asians, or even people in South America, but Californians are generally quite different from Oregons, or people from New Mexico; and especially states on the East Coast. And just for scale sense, North America as a Whole is well over twice the size of Europe (Land Area-wise) and Canada and the US are roughly the same size (Land Area-wise) So despite the same general cultural origin point, there's a lot of regional variance. It'd be similar to comparing Portuguese culture to Czech culture. There's more political barriers, and both are far older in terms of regional culture, but I hope that the comparison works.

I don't think people get interested in gardening at a certain age. What happens is that at a certain age, people settle down, buy houses, get free time, and are otherwise enabled to pursue their latent interest in gardening. I think that all sorts of interests that seem to be common for older people have more to do with them getting a lot of free time back when they no longer need to raise children.

You do need a passport to go from US to Canada. They take around 4 months to get and $150 dollars. Soon you will need a passport or an ID called 'the real ID' to even board a plane in the us.

Plane tickets from dc to london round trip are like 1000 dollars. Thats why americans dont come. And then you need hotels, and then the currency is usually worth more so everything is also way more expensive. All in all a europe trip the same distance away as a drive would cost thousands. Not only that but the flight to paris, amsterdam, or dublin to connect sometimes takes 7 hours and then another hour and a half flight after. And dc is one of the closes places in america you can live to europe so imagine that from california or texas.
@bibsp3556

Everyone pays a lot to travel. It costs us Aussies like 400 bucks to get to another city, let alone overseas. I think for me to get to London its between 2 and 3k. Yet we are everywhere like ants. It just seems Americans don't bother going overseas as much. Maybe there's just a feeling that there's nothing worth seeing elsewhere to justify the cost.
@Warrandpeace
@Warrandpeace 4 місяці тому
@@bibsp3556 im not sure its that americans dont value other places. Its more that America is a very diverse and big country geography wise. Its literally the size of europe itself. Most americans dont see all of their own country because its just that massive. Then add to that the fact that canada and mexico are next to it, theres a whole bunch of tropical islands under it, and hawaii exists. So if i wanted to, i could go see the rocky or appalacian mountains, go to the grand canyon, go to vegas, go to the beach near hollywood or maybe even in florida , go see giant redwoods or bison in yosemite or yellowstone, and then go to a carribean resort or a hawaiin volcanic island all much cheaper and in much shorter distances than to somewhere like europe or asia. Thats also not even touching on seeing like quebec where they speak french, or somewhere like mexico where they speak spanish! Theres so much variety here! Or i could pay 1200 and fly 9+ hours just to get to rome. Then how much more on top of that is that gonna cost. Tickets from me, across the country to the grand canyon are a couple hundred. Tickets to europe are thousands.

I don't think people being more discerning about what they watch is a bad thing, these movies and tv shows are made by the super rich and make them ridiculous amounts of money, the least they can do is make it good. And good compared to tv from a the 1980s isn't good enough, standards have improved. But I've seen the trailers and I'm far from optimistic.

What strikes me about these podcasts is how reliant they are on Pyrion. Who speaks a lot of nonsense but does it in a fast and concise way. Without him, Sips and Lewis don't half ramble, or include "like, y'know, like, y'know a twix bar is like, chocolate and like, y'know caramel." Hard to listen to on occasion.
