Every American should watch this so they would have a better understanding of the sacrifices the men and women that serve, put forth everyday.
It should be noted that his fight was so intense, that on two occasions, he is forced into and engages in, hand to hand combat as his position is overrun by the enemy.
Repost: DanSchillingsBooks
March 4, 2002: John Chapman, an Air Force Combat Controller, along with a SEAL Team, are attempting to rescue their lost teammate. You'll watch Chapman's stunning and heroic actions as he saves the lives of his entire SEAL team, and another 18 members of a quick-reaction force, to earn America's highest honor: The Medal of Honor.
For more information about Chapman's heroic actions, check out the book Alone At Dawn, available here: www.danschillingbooks.com

They tried covering up alot more than him being left behind. The commander at the seal team made some bad choices putting so much pressure making sure they were going in that night. The amount of things that failed before this on this night shouldnt have Even went out. Runnaway engine on one of the CH not to mention them not being aclmented to the altitude. Britt and john were really good buddies. I personally think he thought john was dead. The upper staff at NSW esp it being a DEVGRU unit shit the bed when it comes to honoring them. Tell me if you think britt deserves the medal of honor for going back to get roberts. ( also idk but communication was not the best between seals and the army command of op anaconda.

Is it true that the Seal commander after leaving Chapman behind really tried to take credit for the Airman's heroics only to be proven a liar by the drone footage? If so that team was a bunch of honorless dogs to first leave their comrade behind then lie about what happened, that is truly sickening.

More Americans should know about the sacrifices made by John Chapman during the battle of Takur Ghar. Whenever you think you have it rough, think about John Chapman abandoned by his teammates, with 16 gunshot and shrapnel wounds continuing to take the fight to the enemy. When it states no one knows the reason why Chapman regained consciousness, at 5:03 anyone else spot something move off Chapman, it takes X3 approx. leaps in deep snow then swings round the boulder/tree. What is that? It has the same heat signature but moves at incredible speed in impossible terrain. A glitch? Bouncing/curving rocket? Or was it that thing on him that made him wake up?.

@100Gambit
@100Gambit 3 роки тому
There are multiple bunkers and points of attack. They can't sit and shoot one area whole 4 or 5 different sections are shooting at it . They lost aircraft during this battle. What's more impressive is how these afghan fighters were just hiding under the snow at 6am on a cold mountain top and evaded reconnaissance while just waiting till their opponents landed.
@ConfidentMelon
@ConfidentMelon 8 місяців тому
he was communicating on a UHF emergency frequency that doesn't communicate to the AC-130 (GRIM-32), and not receiving any responses; he may have given up on his radio equipment or have been troubleshooting technical issues. Even if he was on the fire direction net frequency, he would need to be able to have a back and forth with the gunship to determine where his friendlies were so they wouldn't be bombed as well (they were less than 50m from Bunker 1 when he regained consciousness). Another CCT on an observational point 4km away attempted to respond to Chapman after hearing his callsign, but he went unheard. If you want to better understand the complexity involved in this incident and the events that lead to it, you should read the book mentioned by the narrator (Alone at Dawn).

James Hawkins Chapman had fell out of their Chinook when they were coming in and were receiving heavy fire. The pilots, who I BeLive were shot during that exchange, made the decision to not land and get out, unaware Chapman was left behind. And to top it the Chinook had taken too much damage to get back onto the mountain top. A bad situation all the way around.
