It should be noted that officially both Dispair and Desire are not villains. Both are essential for human existence. Desire represents wanting something and it's opposite generosity. Despair represents sorrow and self destruction, but also self sacrifice and melancholy (not nessisary joy...that was Delight's thing before she became the personification of insanity).

Mostly correct accept that the former Endless Delight, who is now Delirium, loved her brother Destruction so much her domain changed when he left.

Since for years, even Gaiman claimed that there was no way there could be a decent film adaption of the series, I, as a long time fan and someone who really doesn't care for re-makes, re-imaginings, etc, I think they did a pretty good job of creating the Endless and the story was interesting. Yeah, I know, OMG! Death was .... black! So what? The acting was good, the story was interesting and I'll keep watching.

Seems like the twins Desire and Despair take forms intended to invoke the very concepts they enbody. Desire is suggestive and a bit fantastical with succubus-like traits. Despair looks like a person who's given up on themeselves, (more so in comics then show) dissatisfied about thier own body so they barely try to look decect, she also assumed failure based on past shortcomings, and all-round pity-able you kinda want to feel bad for them....untill you see the sadistic self-mutilation.

I don't know why they have missed the opportunity to give us the confident, sexy, crazy, unimpressed and even sometimes scary version of despair? This could have been huge! Also pretty awesome to watch finally an obese character on television who isn't either the shy, sad side peace or the joke of the show. Despair is one of the most powerful personifications who is even more powerful than Lucifer itself. She is a queen. But no we have not only gotten a dressed Despair, no we had to watch her become an unimportant shadow. The show is FSK18 for heavens sake. Also wasn't Dream almost the whole first episode naked? Therefore nudity shouldn't be a problem. Furthermore Preston can really look super creepy and scary. Why didn't they use her gift. Wasn't the sandman creator part of this production? But noo.. they did everything to give Despair a traumatized, inconspicuous appearance. They changed her whole being. Why did he let this happen?! Next season I want a nude, scarred, mischievous, manipulative personification of Despair with way more scenes.

Ah yes, Despair, the embodiment of Body Shaming. You do realize that there are "Beautiful" people who are profoundly unhappy as well. "Thin" and "Beautiful" do NOT automatically equate with happiness. She could be a he, S/He could be any size, any shape, any ethnicity, any age, but No, The writers/creators went with "Ugly outside has to mean ugly inside". That was the simplistic view of 19th century authors like Mary Shelly, and Robert Louis Stevenson [Frankenstein, and Dr. Jekyll for those of you with a less literary bent of mind. Never liked how this character equates emotional un-fulfilment with physical un-attractiveness. So superficial. So many hidden messages in the art. "All is not gold that glitters, all is not pure that shines". Despair could be beautiful, It's so EASY to fall into despair, why is she not portrayed as seductive instead? Wallowing in despair could be portrayed as an almost erotic sensation. When you fall into despair, it effects everything you do, so why isn't she portrayed as dominant or controlling? There are SO many ways to portray despair, but they went for "Fat" "Female" and "Ugly". Hellooooo Anorexia.
