You should make it so that the more booty you submit at once the more cash you get. Like a combo system, so that it will entice players to save up loot and instead of immediately heading to the exchange when they grab something. This would also add more of a risk reward mechanic to the game.

It’s really awesome. I’ve come to realize the most I could ever do for development on something like this is a think tank. Conceptual designs, the whole programming and getting the art style in there is so beyond me. I would love to have experience in the working on the music supervision or even making some background music. Making Foley for FPS games is extremely hard because you basically just want to have 10000000 dollar microphone and access to every firearm in real life to record, but I love and appreciate every aspect of the game development and doing it alone is such a huge undertaking. Having to bounce ideas off yourself is so hard, just making music by myself is super difficult, I always like to bounce my WIPs and share them with friends to see if a casual listener has any arrangement notes

Maybe there could be special high value loot that came with negative effects: -A gold bar that slowed your movement speed down while you have it in your inventory. -a magic book that emitted lots of particles around the player model, making it hard to hide - a "piggybank" that slowly increased in value the more time it spend in your inventory. These types of loot would bring more decisions taking to the game

I noticed that you could put multiple items into the “money recycler,” as I’ll call it and it could be an interesting concept to have the more items you recycle at once apply a multiplier to the amount of cash you earn. So, if you only recycle one item at a time, you only earn 1x that amount of cash, but if you recycle two, then it’ll be something like 1.1x. It’ll allow for more risk-reward, where there’s a greater risk of you losing potentially a lot of money if you die with a bunch of items on you, but could be a great reward to have a compounding multiplier based on how many items you recycle

IMO you should call the deathmatch mode something like "BootyMatch" or "Booty Call" Great work so far! It's honestly inspiring to see someone building a game from the ground up, including their own assets. Keep up the great work!

Good progress made so far! This is a really innovative and fun-sounding gamemode. Simple, but very strategic at the same time, yet not too complex to where you won't know what you're doing the first couple times you play. One tool I'd like to recommend in order to test multiplayer functionality is Clumsy, it basically has a bunch of options to test real-world network conditions, simulating things like latency, packet loss, packet duplication, etc.

You can put a "hardcore" mode in which when you kill someone, your weapon evaporates, so it forces you to find another one, and at the same time, it can unleash some interesting behaviour when three players face each other. What do you think?

Sounds cool! I get Hunger Games vibes, where there's a cornucopia of loot at the center of the map and everyone start out an equal distance away and runs for it at the beginning. Better loot in the center, but also more likely to get killed trying to grab it.

This obviously depends on the exact type of experience you want, but I think it might be worth considering streamlining the loot exchange system to be faster and less fiddly. From the clip you showed, you'd have to drop each item and then press a tiny little button next to the pad. When under pressure of enemies potentially stealing your booty (a high likelihood, as I'd imagine camping these exchange points to be a viable strategy), a player might get frustrated if they die and feel like it was just because submitting all of their items required a multitude of little precise inputs to drop everything in the right spot and submit it, and all they did was make one slow input or a single misclick. That's a valid implementation if you want the game to be tense and nerve wracking, but if you want a more casual and fast-paced experience, I'd consider a system that is simpler overall (i.e. "Hold E to submit currently equipped booty") that doesn't place all of the responsibility onto the players ability to quickly execute minute inputs in sequence.

Sounds pretty good! careful about how you implement the drop site. I feel like most people would camp it all game even if there are multiple sites. I would add a mechanic that stops loot from being dropped off while another player is near. also If you intent on adding long range guns make sure any drop boxes can't be sniped out of the lock out range.

Cool concept! If you can work it in to your existing plans, I think it would also be really neat to have something similar to Prey 2017's recycler/fabricator for the booty collection and weapon upgrade mechanic. Converting the collected booty to different kinds of raw materials/components that are used for different kinds of weapons (i.e. copper wire used to upgrade a stungun, steel used to build a larger rifle magazine, etc.) would allow players to prioritize hunting/fighting for certain booty types based on their play style and preferred upgrade strategy.

I'm curious how you are going to implement a leaderboards type system. Like maybe you can only see the money that other players have already deposited. Or maybe you can see both deposited and current inventory money off all players in the lobby, incentivizing "hunting" the best players for the best loot. Though this would only work if the "combo/multiplier" deposit system was implemented, to create a incentive for hoarding money. Anyways I'm interested to see how the game develops, keep it up!

Titanfall 2's Bounty Hunt game mode was kinda similar to this in some ways. There are two teams. A spot is marked on the map where enemy NPCs will spawn and killing them will earn you money. If you're killed, you lose half of the money you're carrying, and the player who killed you gets it. Between waves, banks will open on the map which allow you to deposit your money into your team's score. Banks are neutral, so they're hotly contested and a great time to earn a bunch of money taking out enemies showing up to deposit their money. Only money in the bank is counted towards the score limit, but each team has a progress bar show with two segments filling it. The first is banked money, and the second is money carried by your team. It makes it easy for both teams to see when one team has enough money on them to win the game, so there's a mad rush for the banks when they open. I also wanna briefly mention perhaps my favorite element of TF|2's game design, which is the escape sequence after each match. Winning team gets their match win reward, then everyone respawns with one life. An escape ship will arrive in 30 seconds, and the losing team wants to get on it before it leaves 20 seconds later. If the winning team kills them all or destroys the escape ship, they get another match win reward. Any members of the losing team who manage to escape without dying gets a match win reward. It's just super cool that every match ends with a 50 second lightning rematch in a slightly different game mode - with the exact same stakes as the full match!

I've been watching the progress throughout your short and well explained videos, I'm building a simple dungeon crawler (like Barony/Delver), but I got kinda stuck on the best way to treat a dropped item/armor/weapon and how to switch between dropped scene to equipped scene, to stored in inventory without losing its attributes (like damage, enchantments/durability etc), could you make a short video on how you treat weapon switching in your game? If the model and scene when dropped is the same from the equipped one, and how the attributes like ammo etc pass on after dropped. Thanks!

your mode reminds me a lot the cash based mode of Titanfall 2, i would say, i love it, it was one of my favourite modes and i would suggest you to take a lot to it if you want to see a similar mode how "solved" particular problems (even just seeing how the bank works and such)

Very interesting concept that I feel could go a lot of ways with map design alone. Maybe a more traditional "Hunger Games" map where the most expensive loot (potentially respawning as well) is in the center creating chaotic fights with everyone involved, maybe a map where everything is close-range and loot is more scattered about, creating smaller 1v1s and maybe prioritizing silent weapons. Maybe a map where there's only one (moving to prevent camping) drop zone, so the hardest part is DEPOSITING your loot and not necessarily obtaining it. All great ideas that stem from one concept. I feel like it's important to add some variation, so that certain weapon types will be viable on different maps and create a more flourishing meta. Will there be any plans to create a "counter-strike esque" gamemode with limited respawns, where you can use your cash from previous rounds to upgrade to newer and better weapons as time goes on? I think sticking to the full "one life, specific objective" system wouldn't work necessarily with the game, so maybe a 3 round team deathmatch where you get cash from each kill and can upgrade to stronger guns and mods between rounds? Maybe a specific kill limit for each round (say, first team to 50 kills wins the round) or a time limit (a quick 3-5 minute team deathmatch where the team with the highest kill count wins the round)? First team to 2 points in the three rounds wins the match? In the regular Deathmatch gamemode, will there still be a system for upgrading weapons through cash? If not, will the weapons already be upgraded to your choices? Because some people may start specializing in a specific type of weapon and weapon mod ("one tricking") and being able to get plenty of practice in deathmatches would be nice. And finally, are there any plans to create a ranked play for the game? It's not something I necessarily want to look into for a casual shooter, but for very VERY many FPS players seeing a little icon next to their name get cooler brings them the biggest amount of joy possible.

an idea i just got is a gamemode called 'team booty', where 2 teams have a large booty pool which they have to defend, you take take items from the enemies booty pool and put it in your pool, but it goes vice versa.

yoooo, good game mode idea. I suggest having the booty depositories moving around the map in intervals. You can have some form of drone fly by, pick the depository up and then move elsewhere giving a visual queue

This somewhat reminds me of Warframe's Index gamemode, it's hella fun but only available in co-op. Maybe you can take some inspiration from them, they have some interesting mechanics like giving you debuff as you collect more loot but multiplying your reward for keeping as much loot on your character as possible. Or you can just make a PvP version of it as a second gamemode altogether!

i love the flying off into space when the enemy's get shot but i have a dumb idea. instead have players go into a downed state where they can be helped up by team mates. also add a function where team mates or enemy's can drag a downed play away. if they drop the downed player into the cash exchange they can turn them in along with all the stuff they were carrying. this with local voip would hilarious.

That'd be cool if you could spend your money for items. So a balance of dropping off boots but a store that you can purchase perks or special weapons, so it leaves a player to strategize how they want to win. Looks great through, I'm excited to play!

This game mode actually reminds me more of how Team Fortress 2 has their player destruction game mode where you have to collect bottles from fallen enemies and teammates then deposit them into a bin which gives your team points. But instead of collecting bottles or presents, you collect weapons that can be used for self defense or... self offense... Looks like its gonna be an very interesting mode where when you die from someone, you can do a salty run back and try to kill them with lower standard gear to get your items back which then they would probably try to do the same to ya as well. Also if you are the kinda person who just hordes all of the good weapons and is leaving everyone else around you with worse weapons, I can totally see everyone just ganging up on you just to balance out the power gap which would be interesting too. What i'm interested in is to see your approach to more less fun metas that will be created once people get a foot hold on the game itself. I can see camping the extract locations would become an problem later down the line.

Kingpin : Life of crime had a similar game mode. Cash would drop in the middle of the map. Players could pick up cash (up to a max amount) and they had to deposit it in their team's safe. You could also steal money from the opposing team's safe. The winner would be the team that accumulated X amount of cash first. This game was released in 1999 :P

you should add the ability to somehow spawn a drop zone at your location (maybe through an item found rarely throughout the map, or as a killstreak reward) to avoid people just camping the sites. this sounds really fun though, can't wait to see what it turns into!

Would love a game mode where the walking animations were hilarious and the rag doll set to max. The waking animations you showed us not too far back. I still think it would be hilarious if there was booty grab mode with optional excessive leg movement and the last bullet to kill then sent them flying like hit by a train level. Also I got a pc now so I can actually play when released! 😃

So the Game Mode is like Bounty Hunt from Titanfall 2. With the Difference being that its a Free for All and that "Potential Cash" is generatet by looting instead of shooting. Sounds neat :)

You can make a random crown spawner which spawns a crown somewhere and the crown will give you a big amount of money if you put it into the bank but if you get kills with that the value will increase also everyone will be able to see the crown that you took. So you can just take the crown and deposit and play safe or you can risk it by fighting and increasing the value of it and then deposit it.

This is a cool idea. As an aside - I wish that extraction shooters would adopt the Death Stranding model of letting you stack as much shit as you want on your back at the cost of mobility and... being able to walk in a straight line without collapsing comically.
