as the eldest I remember that leap to the grown ups table - it took years to earn the respect back from the other kids after I betrayed them

God damn you really nailed the nostalgia of the weird scenario where your parents only care about chatting with other parents and barely notice what you're doing.

The acting is so good that I still can’t decide if Joel is a child awkwardly trying to force his way into the adult’s table or an adult who was shunned by both tables.

I can see why they made Joel sit at the kids table, but it was pretty rude of them to not provide him a chair

Joel is surprisingly talented at looking like a kid. If he wants to. Only if he wants to. Like not generally. But in this video that was really good kid-like acting.

I now feel bad for my part in traumatizing Joel at the kid's table.

Well I was 26 when my father and me visited another family and apparently he told me to sit on the kid table with their teenage children (and their friends) because "It would be too boring to sit with the adults for you". So yeah I ate ice cream with 13 year olds.

Reminds me of easter with my family... The "kid's table" is now just me and my two cousins and we're all in our 20's now, but are still the youngest of the family so we're still excluded because there's not enough room for us at the adult's table.

Including my cousins, I'm the second youngest of a familial generation of 14. The youngest being my little sister. You don't know what it's like to be truly infantilized until you are eating with your niece who loves to bring up the fact at Thanksgiving dinner that her dad used to beat you up. In front of all the other kids. I didn't get bumped up to the adult table till I was 18. "No room" they told me. Thanks for this one Joel, it was great.
