When my twin sister and I were pretty young, daddy would take us fishing at a creek in Bloomfield, Kentucky. Lots of bluegill and bass. I remember being cold and daddy building a good warm fire. Seeing the peaceful expression on his face was mesmerizing. The glow of the light from the fire, and the smells from the water, grass, and coffee was so wonderful. That is what started my absolute love of the outdoors. I’m 63 and still love camping, campfires, cooking on the fire. I love the peace and quiet!

For anyone thinking about this tent and out off by this review. I bit the bullet and got one anyway. And it was performed perfectly. It's been up for about 2 weeks straight outside through all weather conditions and I've not had any problems or leaks whatsoever.

My passion for hiking came when I was a Youngster. My family is one of the largest free range, grass-fed, cattle producers in Washington State. So we used to build and fix a lot of fence. I found out really early that I didn't like horses at all. So I would hike fence line with what I needed to do the initial fix if I could and if I couldn't I would tell my cousin's where everything was at. I was hiking five or six miles in a day with 30 or 40 pounds or gear as a twelve-year-old kid. And that spurned my love of hiking. After I got older I would do overnights out in the field fixing fence by myself at like 15 16 years old in the middle of nowhere in South Central Washington state. In the foothills of the Cascades. I have hiked Hundreds and hundreds of miles in those mountains. And I love hiking to this day. I am 45 years old. So basically my dislike of horses is what gave me the love of hiking. So many awesome trips by myself in the middle of nowhere scared to death cuz of coyotes, wolves, and many other things that go bump or howl in the night. Taught me the meaning of bravery, self-sufficiency, and just what a man, or in my case, a young boy can do on his own.

I get my passion for the outdoors from my grandfather and my father. My dad passed away a few months ago and so next year I'm taking my 17 year old son to hike the windrivers in my dads honor. It was the first hike he ever took me on at just 8 years old. The trail is part of the CDT, but we are only doing about 6 miles to Dads Lake (yes that's the name of the lake) because my health isn't what it used to be and that was my dads "secret" fishing spot. ❤

If it is made out of canvas then you need to season it. Set it up, then get a garden hose and get it soaking wet. Let it dry completely in sunlight. Repeat process 2 more times! What you are doing is the same as washing and drying a pair of denim jeans. You are shrinking the fabric. A properly seasoned tent, swag WILL NOT LEAK OR WICK WATER. Enjoy many excellent reviews and info from you. I enjoy your channel very much!

Luke my friend, the first leg of your mission with your kids may be accomplished, but make no mistake, you will continue to feel, worry and share in every ache, pain, success, failures, joys, happiness, sadness until you take your last hike. It isn’t over until it’s over. As a matter of fact, it’s now when all of your teaching will be tested. But not to fear of losing the past cause when the grandkids come it all starts over again. Circle of life. I have raise 2 sons and a daughter, now have 4 grandkids. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Blessings. 😁

Grew up on the family’s 115 acre farm surrounded by woods and other farms. I’m also an Eagle Scout......so I spent a lot of time outdoors growing up. Got away from it all once I got married, with only a few camping trips. Really only started getting back into it, now that I’m single, in the past few years (now 48 yrs old). The thing I have to get over is the noises. Every little twig dropping and my over active mind goes crazy. Found I love hiking recently with family located near the Superstitions. It ruins it for me coming back to Michigan after a vacation. I did a 10 day back packing trip when I was 15 in New Mexico. What an awesome time.

I have to say, OneTigris is a pretty good company. Over the last couple years I have purchased their down patrol bag, Roamer backpack and Tangram tent and have only had one small issue with a half inch stitch. I used all three for a fishing trip last week and my only problems were the size of the fish I caught and that they didn't bite more often! There is a possibility of the chair and table making a return. On the co-op and testing site they will poll opinions on past products to bring back to market occasionally. Really is a shame about the lemon you got, looking forward to vigorous testing of its replacement.

Hi Luke , I remember as a 12 year old going for an overnight tramp ( hike) and we were so deep in the bush , awesome bird life, the views would take your breath away. A song we would sing was... Away away with Billy and pack , we are folioing on the mountain track, we all will get lost and never come back in the Tararua ranges. The tararuas are the mountains at the back of Levin , in the north Island of New Zealand were I live. People have died as the weather can change very quickly, and as with all hicking , people dont prepare enough , they dont take extra cloths just in case and if they get lost they suffer from hypothermia and some die or have to be rescued by our search and rescue

Growing up there were 6 of us that hung around together, there were woods in our neighborhood we would pack up and spend the day. There was a spot i think about to this day, it was a creek bed that had maybe 20 yards on each side and it sloped up hill both sides. You couldn't see what was past the slope. This creek bed cut through alot of farm land. I just remember how wide open it was and you felt like you were in the middle of no where. It was the type of woods you could see forever tons of vines to swing on. Very fond memories.

Great trip and video. Like you, my love for hiking and camping started when I was young, around 12, I think. My adventures started with my best friend who also enjoyed the woods and hiking. We read survival books voraciously and made a lot of our own gear, including a dryer that worked with light bulbs to dry fruit for trail mix. We had a permanent camp in a farmers woods (with permission) and we had a lean to, a cache and even a latrine away from camp. Great times. I was too long away from camping but have started again and have once again accessed private land with permission and started building a camp. Reliving my childhood lol. Keep up the great work thank you

My passion for hiking and camping came from UKposts, believe it or not... When I was a kid, me and my family went camping just one time. That's because both my father and mother had back issues since they were young adults. They both were in so much pain the next morning, we never went camping again. I went on a 5 day hiking trip with a friend of mine when I was 16 years old. But that was about it. Then, some years ago, I stumbled across channels like Joe Robinet, The Wooded Beardsman etc and that really flared up my passion! I went ahead and bought me a full set of hiking gear and started to go out. Small trips at first. Overnight in a local forest and stuff like that. To test out my gear and my abilities to set up camp, start a cozy fire, cook on a fire, you know... By now I go on hiking trips 2-6 times a year and I am absolutely in love with it! Wouldn't want to miss it! I came across your channel just a few day ago, when I searched for reviews of a tent a was considering to buy. One of your videos was in the recommended section. I like your videos. You're doing some good and honest testing and I like your casual way of doing it. Casual, yet professional. You've got yourself a new subscriber! Cheers mate.

Thanks so much for including the Dewalt chainsaw in this video! I didn't know it existed until I watched this video. I purchased one & the double battery pack with charger & carry bag. Last weekend I cut up a fallen oak tree trunk 10.5 inches to 10 inches diameter & 20 fee long into 1 foot logs along with a bunch of dead & seasoned branches that fell during a recent storm. I used one battery for approximately 3 1/2 hours until it ran out of power. I had to refill the bar oil tank once during that time. The clean up was a breeze & and the chain was still nice & sharp. I was amazed at how easily it worked through that oak log & how it made short work of the branches. This little wonder is now my go to chainsaw for the tree parts that fall after storms in the yard & for cutting back lower branches. I'm very impressed! Keep up the great work on your videos.

Reading all these brilliant, idyllic stories has me so envious. Despite being a Reservist, my Dad never really took my sister & I out camping as kids; I had to discover my love of the bush well into adulthood. I always used to think I hated it, but it turned out I just hated being freezing + hungry + sleeping straight on the ground, which was the only way that my friends who had tried to get me involved always did it. Once I later discovered the existence of sleeping pads & that it wasn't a moral sin to bring whatever you needed to be actually _comfortable_ (I now own a Zero Gravity chair), I fell in love. I have different tents + gear ensembles for different durations + types of camp (my hike-in camping kit, my just-1-night car camping kit, my weekend car camping kit, & my 4-days-or-more car camping kit - as well as my expecting-a-storm camping kit). All my gear is colour coordinated + I'm unreasonably proud of it. I'm a foodie at home, so natch I'm obsessed with camp cooking; my Dutch oven skills are first-rate, if I do say so - & I also love playing trail chef, having fun with the challenge of coming up with properly complex + satisfying dishes within the confines of weight limits + lack of refrigeration. I love everything about being in the wild, & I only wish my good memories of it had started in my childhood, rather than my 30s. My Dad + I were super-close, & I wish we could have shared that together. (A moment of silence for the ex who tried _really_ hard to get me into it with him, as it was a large part of his life, + I did give it a go - but that was unfortunately _festival_ camping, & thus not my thing.)

@@InimitaPaul I wouldn't trust any tent to keep my sleep system dry, if I did sleep in one, I would still take my bivvy bag for extra protection so it's not worth it for me, better off with a bivvy bag and tarp in the first place. Being in a small tent in the rain is miserable, whether it's leaky or not, if it's not a flysheet-first pitcher and it's raining when you pitch, your inner will get wet, furthermore you can't chance using a stove inside a tent so you can get cold...whereas with a bivvy bag, which is basically your inner, you are warmer when you sleep because there's less space to heat with your body, and under a tarp you can make various configurations and safely use a stove, even a twig stove or small fire, and stay cosy as well as having more living space.

I mainly use either my Luxe Minipeak XL with the collapsible hot stove or the Fjallraven Abisko Lite 2, one keeps everything warm, dry and comfortable and the other has an attached inner so I’m good. You can actually quite safely have a small twig fire in a Bushbox in the vestibule entrance but it’s more suited to using the Jetboil MiniMo. Add the -6 UQG quilt and the Thermarest Neorest Xtherm pad and I don’t remember the last time I was chilly, even while I’m asleep with no stove going.

Rig a tarp over the tent or "scotchgard" the tent. lol The one trigris tent only has a 1500mm waterproof rating. Standard camping tents are rated at at least twice that water proofing.. Personally I wouldn't rely on one system for water protection if you're in a country that rains a lot. Also consider an additional groundsheet underneath the tent as a footprint.

I vicariously enjoyed your campout and gear testing. That Soto lantern... I must have one. Thanks for putting a lot of gear through the wringer and giving us your honest opinions.

When I was very young there was one time I remember staying in a camper with my whole family while my dad was following the seasonal need to sheer sheep. Later, I spent some time at an aunt's house up in the mountains of Idaho, just chasing lizards and playing with clay. Basically running wild. All this before I even started kindergarten.

Most kids today won't have such beautiful memories of their childhood. It will be more about how many likes or followers on social media they got..technology is a wonderful thing, but I can't help but think life was a bit better back then. Thanks for sharing your memories with us, sparked a few of my own on a chill Sunday morning.

Hi Luke, the noodles you've eaten is indomee. An Indonesia brand of instant noodle that are meant to be eaten like a fried noodles. After you boil it for about 3 mins, you pour away the water, add in the seasoning, stir and enjoy.

My love of the outdoors started before I was even a month old. My parents took me camping when I was only a couple weeks old. My mom told me that I cried unless I was outside in my cradle, under the tarp, in the rain. That was the start of a lifelong love. My family spent every weekend in the Coast Range mountains, camping. My dad would come home from work on Friday night, and the whole family would head up to the mountains for the weekend. We'd be back for school and work on Monday. It didn't matter the weather. There's a hilarious commercial, "Pemco, Blue Tarp Campers" and that was us. Haha. All my parents' friends were also outdoors people, so we would often meet up with them for camping. We spent many holidays camping. During the summer we spent most of the time outdoors also, in the Coast Range and Cascades, and also on road trips, camping throughout the Pacific Northwest, in the mountains, deserts, and rainforest. (Most of Oregon and Washington are desert, a lot of people don't realize.) My dad had catamarans (and a Snark, lawl) and my mom and dad both had dirt bikes, so we also hung out with friends sailing on lakes and rivers, and with their motorcycle buddies. My mom had had horses before I was born, and then later in life she got horses again, so then trail riding and horse camping was a part of my life! We never "traveled" like other people did, with vacations to Hawai'i, or Europe... but I wouldn't have traded camping for anything. I feel more at home in the mountains than in my house, and I get homesick for them.

EXCELLENT, Luke. I have that same ax, I polished both sides & sharpened it which improved its cutting ability. I have the Soto Windmaster Stove & have known about Soto cooksets. I'm quite pleased to see you use & review the set; looks like that is a complete cookset in every respect. Thank you for using & reviewing the Soto Cookset, & lantern. I didn't know electric chainsaws existed; thanks for showing & using the Dewalt electric chainsaw. I'll be looking forward to your use & review of the Helikon Swagman Roll. Corporals Corner channel uses that product on most of his outdoor adventures.
