Just as the Appalachian Dome Tent was dangerous, this one might be even worse!

You hit the nail on the head! This tent is targeted at people who either have little money or little sense. Most likely this tent will be used by families with children on their first overnight. If there's any rain on the trip(you know there will be) it will ruin the experience and might put them off camping forever. Products like this are theft plain and simple! I'm disabled with three little kids who are always asking me to go camping. It would be impossible because a simple overnight might put me in the hospital. If I could just barely do it, a product like this would definitely cause harm. This company doesn't care because they know their product is cheap enough people will just toss it and not bother returning it.

I literally have a tent that cost me maybe £35 10 years ago, it's a Gelert Tornado 3 if anybody wants to know (they don't make them anymore), and it has lasted me all this time. Took it out in 40mph winds and heavy HEAVY rain up in Scotland last week, the ground literally waterlogged everywhere around us and under us, not a drop of water inside the tent. The fact that equipment this bad can cost $50 is absolutely criminal, it's a summer festival tent at best.

I've bought summer festival tents that are a two people tent and it was less than half the price of the tent in the video. That had full regular trnt poles, were a lot more sturdy, a little bit bigger. I tested it before going and had like 4 rainy nights in that tent. It was waterproof or well, waterproof enough that I and my stuff didn't get wet in two days of constant rain. Being in a real proper tent would have been a better experience, but It worked. That tent were also very clear in that it was a summer and summer only tent. Like the problem isn't that the tent in the video is just a super cheap tent. It's an especially bad cheap tent, that is a lot worse than many tents that you can find at an even lower price point. This is worse than you standard festival tent where people just buy whatever is the absolute cheapest one they can find.

I am working on a safe tent heating and power generating system. It uses an enclosed gas burner chamber that is placed outside of the tent and pumps hot water in the tent where a radiator and a fan heat up the air inside. The burner system has a TEG and a small power bank to provide the starting conditions for the torches, pump and fan. The prototype makes just about 5W for running the onboard electronics and motors, but the final version will do about 10-15W and will be able to charge phones, power banks and provide power for lighting.

It was always in my pocket, never in the pack, and I used it every day multiple times a day (gotta eat, of course). I've been through a few tough storms in my life as a boy scout, 2 of which happened just recently at the first at summer camp and another at my OA ordeal. Those storms shook me so much that I now get extreme anxiety if I have to be outside and it starts sprinkling. Thank god I didn't have this tent (which I wouldn't have anyway as I have a fairly large tote box) because if I did, I would've never recovered. Thank god my tents were great.

When I was a kid in boy scouts (more years ago than I want to admit), I had an orange tent just like this. Bottom of the line, bought at K-Mart. It utterly sucked just like this. I remember waking up on one scouting trip to literally see a river running through the middle of it. Ended up "sleeping" on a picnic table bench under an old rain coat, because everything else I owned, including my sleeping bag, was soaked. If it hadn't been height of summer it would have been dangerous instead of just miserable. Some things you just can't skimp out on, and a tent is one of those things.

Not necessarily. Black diamond produces a lot of their tent products without seam sealing. They make this very clear, so people can add it if they feel it's necessary. I've had two of these and I can confidently say that the first one wasn't crap. The second one felt like a completely different tent though. The first has been through heavy rain and wind with not even a drop getting in (as it should), with the only damage coming from someone running directly into the side of it, although it only broke one stake in the middle, so no big deal. The second my friend used with me and setting them up side by side there were clear differences in material even. This time we were in 25° weather though, (we were in winter sleeping bags because we're not psychopaths) and both kept the frost out and stayed together until we said otherwise. In other words, we got our money's worth from a super light tent that was dirt cheap and took next to no time to set up. Sure it's not anything close to the best, but who's expecting some tent a fraction of the cost of the second cheapest and a quarter of the weight to actually compare to that tent?

I have this identical tent from Stansport, except in the camouflage configuration, I purposely ordered it because of how unbelievably light weight, compact and roomy it is, for something that small (folded), but the reality of the situation is that it needs a thorough seem sealer, and spray water proof job, right out of the box, I purchased mine from Amazon, along with tent seam sealant, and water proof aerosol spray, I got to work, and coated every seam carefully, then sprayed two Coates of sealer on the entire fabric,(45 min job) I left it to dry outside in my back yard, a few hours later, a fair amount of rain fell, right into the night.... I was a bit nervous, as the sealer needed more drying time, but the next morning I checked it and it was completely dry inside. I ventured to further spay it on all sides with the water hose, for about 2 minutes, with some force, and again, no leaks... Yes it is a cheap tent, but with some work, it can be made to survive in the feild, under a real world scenario. I'm quite happy with mine, for the price, but it is ridiculous that it comes with out any real waterproofing from the factory, I was aware of this when buying it, so I was prepared to take the gamble, all new tents should be additionally waterproofed after purchasing anyway, but these Stansports are exceptionally bad, for leaks, unless you are willing to seal it yourself.

Constructive Criticism: I see the same mistake in setting up tents from many new campers. That is, letting the ground cloth stick out from under the tent. When the ground cloth sticks out from under the tent, it becomes a collector of water directing it under the tent. The ground sheeting needs to be rolled up and under the tent so none of it is sticking out. I appreciate what you are doing, but please take the extra time to show and explain, best practices and roll the excess ground cloth up and under the tent. Even in a high end tent setting up the way it was done here would lead to water under the tent and seeping up through the tent floor. thank you for your consideration of this point.

I've done way to much camping in the rain! With high quality tents the "footprints" stop just shy of the wall of the tent. Looking for a spot where the ground slopes away on all sides is best. I really prefer double wall tents, single wall tents tent to wick the water through the sides. Thanks for pointing out best practices Jeff. Of course there is no hope for that pos Stansport! I’m trying to look at the bright side. I bought a tent like this when I was a teenager in the early 1980s. This is an old design and many companies have made almost identical tents. I guess I learned the hard way that the tent leaks. I had a lot of fun with it when it wasn’t raining. It kept insects out, which is no small thing when you live and camp in mosquito infested areas. Fast forward about 30 years. When I was in the Army Reserve I was sent to Camp Atterbury, Indiana for my two-week annual training. I knew I would be expected to sleep in an overcrowded noisy unsanitary open-bay barracks with no privacy. I took one of these tents (mine was green) and a camouflage tarp. I went a few hundred yards away from the barracks into a wooded area and pitched this tent and rigged the camouflage tarp over it. With the addition of the inexpensive tarp, rain was no problem. I could still shower in the barracks or the Army gym. For two weeks, I stealth camped. I would work my 12 hour shift, then go back to the tent and sleep and relax. I’m an introvert and 12 hours is about as much time as I care to spend around other people. I was very happy in the tent, reading and sleeping in peace and quiet.

The cheapest 2 person dome tents you can get in Germany's favorite discounter run around €50 so basically $60. I have used similar tents in really really bad weather conditions, having them survive storms in Burgundy, France, as well as several days of downpour in northern Germany. In essence: it IS possible to produce usable tents at that price range, even in a high salary country like Germany. So good job, hold that company accountable for a job badly done.

I bought a simple, single skinned dome tent from a camping shop in Greece in the late 80's for about £15 (say equivalent £30 now, max).. I wasn't expecting it to be much, but I was amazed at the quality. It was made in Germany. It lasted me years of general bumming around Europe in summer, but when bad weather did hit it took it admirably. More recently however I have bought camping products from reputable German companies, for much higher cost/quality levels (as I was expecting more demanding conditions), with decidedly mixed results. No excuse now but to do your research... which is exactly what this channel facilitates. 👍

This was the same with the old canvas tents. They kept out water pretty good until you touched the canvas thus separating the threads a little bit and creating a water through-way. As a kid I was told don't touch it while it's raining. Did I heed that? Not until after I had to see for myself.

It’s good to see someone is trying to hold these lying, thieving, ripoff artists accountable for their corrupt sales. To many of these companies sell to hard working people who just want to be able to believe they’re getting what they paid for- and they keep getting away with it.

I had a rickety tent from the 80s that my dad tought me how to set up. It felt like something that would cost 35 cents but it kept the wind out and the rain. But not the rooster cawing at 4:30 in the morning

I remember having a tent like this when I was a kid and it looked very similar in construction. I believe mine was $20 and I don’t ever remember it leaking like this one. Of course I was 12 years old so maybe I just tolerated it 😂. My thought is that is who this tent is marketed towards, kids. But clearly they fell short of making the tent even somewhat reliable. “Modern features” 😂😂😂

You don't remember wrong. They used to pay attention to waterproofing. I have a 25 year old tent that was a no name clearance bought from Cabelas for 10 dollars. Sprayed it twice with silicone and hasn't leaked in 25 years with me when I was single and with my son all the way through Eagle scout. Most people can only afford 100 dollars ir less and this crap is dangerous as heck.

Had this tent for a few years, never used it until about a month ago. Started raining at 11pm and by 2am the tent had basically collapsed and had soaked through entirely. Luckily I had other people with me. Threw the tent away the next morning and replaced it.

When we first started getting back into backpacking, we seriously considered stansport products (we knew nothing about nothing). UKposts wasn't really a thing back then. We settled on a Wenzel 2 person (still too small for 2 people) and we have actually passed it in to friends after a solid 7 years of use. Glad we have channels like TOGR to keep is in the know. Solid review, Luke!

yeah i like my wenzel but as with most all tent manufacturers if it says sleeps 4 it's actually 2 6 is 3, 8 is 4 and so on unless you're planning on sleeping orgi style then just stack people like cord wood for warmth ... but definitely if you wanna be comfortable have some extra legroom a box in the tent for shoes to keep dirt contained and these battery powered bug zappers are a must ever since i got one

8:01 exactly, imagine you go camping, all your clothes are in the tent, its a couple degrees above freezing, you wake up literally shivering, because your sleeping bag is drenched, the clothes you're wearing are drenched, and all your other clothes and supplies are drenched, outside the tent is pouring with rain, and inside its a literal pool, and you get hypothermia, potentially with no way to contact anyone for help, because of your phone was in the tent, and got wet and isn't working
